Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 touch controls not working with Pocket Casts

Several users have reported that the touch controls on their Pixel Buds Pro 2 are no longer working for advancing/rewinding in Pockets Casts.

Usually, double tapping a bud will advance by 30 seconds, and triple tapping rewinds 10 seconds. It looks like it does the action, but doesn’t go back into playback mode, stays paused. Controls are working in other apps (YouTube Music, for example).

Step-by-step reproduction instructions

1. Listen to an episode with Pixel Buds Pro 2.
2. Double tap a bud to advance by 30 seconds, or triple tap to rewind 10 seconds.
3. The action happens, but playback is paused and you have to tap again to resume.

Since today’s update, when I skip forwards or backwards using my Pixel Buds Pro 2, the audio pauses and I have to tap my earbud again to resume playback. I’m using a Pixel 8 Pro.

when I skip, forward or backward, in pocket casta via my pixel buds pro 2, it pauses. This doesn’t happen when skipping via phone or android auto. This doesn’t happen when skipping via pixel buds pro in other apps.
I’ve reported to Google, but seems to be a pocket casts specific issue

Within the past week, PocketCasts has started pausing podcasts when I use the skip forward or skip backward function from my headphones. The headphones are Google Pixel Buds Pro 2, and the phone is a Google pixel 9 Pro. I use a double tap to skip forward, a triple tap just get backwards. After either function, my audio pauses and I have to single tap to get it to start again.
