Badge on ios when app closed

Hi,
Badge works on ios only if app is running in foreground. However if app is closed or running in background and a service listener such as notification listener listens to an incoming notification and calls setbadge, the app icon on the phone is not updates.

Is there a way to make setbadge work on ios when application is in background? Tx.
