There are several bugs/usability changes that are of interest to BoardStat that seem to exist as limits of the business intelligence tool. The following are:

MAPPING

  • Aggregate weights for complaint types are not being properly displayed on load. Bubble sizes seem to be dynamic and trigger when a user zooms in and out of the map.
  • Addresses with multiple complaint types are visualized using mini pi-charts (note: pi-charts are notorious for being bad graphs). An alternative mapping solution should be able to show these cases differently
  • Future Work: Research alternative mapping solutions (Possibly other custom Power BI visualizations). Seems to be a glitch in many mapping solutions that formats lat/long features to sum and does not display data points accurately.

BOARD PROFILE

  • There seems to be a bug that defaults the bottom left-hand table to the first address listed. Example: When we subset the data by selecting a descriptor, date range, and/or complaint type, the bottom table auto-updates with the addresses for that particular query. When filters are changed or eliminated, however, the table seems to update but sometimes gets stuck in the middle of the table and does not return to the top. This is likely going to be a usability issue if our users are less technically-proficient.

ADDRESS LOOKUP

  • In address lookup, when filtering the treemap to subset for a specific complaint type, the hover pop up over 'Number of Requests by Descriptor and Year' shows descriptors in alphabetical order. Instead, it would be better to sort by descending number of complaints.

AGENCY PROFILE

  • There is need to have a hover pop up that displays more information about a data point (User use case example: A user clicks on an address and additional information like resolution description, etc. is shown). The current table requires all features to be included as columns.
