\c 1
\s1 Date of Vision of Living Creatures and Glory of the Throne of Yahweh
\m
\v 1 And it was in \add the\add* thirtieth year, in the fourth \add month\add*, on the fifth \add day\add* of the month, and I \add was\add* in the midst of\f + \fr 1:1 \ft Or “among” \f* the exiles\f + \fr 1:1 \ft Hebrew “exile” \f* by the ⸤Kebar River⸥.\f + \fr 1:1 \ft Literally “river of Kebar” \f* The heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.
\v 2 On the fifth \add day\add* of the month—it was the fifth year of the exile of the king Jehoiachin—
\v 3 the word of Yahweh ⸤came⸥\f + \fr 1:3 \ft Literally “was” \f* clearly\f + \fr 1:3 \ft Or “certainly” \f* to Ezekiel the son of Buzi, the priest, in the land of \add the\add* Chaldeans at the ⸤Kebar River⸥,\f + \fr 1:3 \ft Literally “river of Kebar” \f* and the hand of Yahweh was on him there.
\p
\v 4 And I looked,\f + \fr 1:4 \ft Or “saw” \f* and look! A storm wind \add was\add* coming from the north, a great cloud, and fire flashing back and forth, and brightness around \add and\add* ⸤within it⸥,\f + \fr 1:4 \ft Literally “for it” \f* and from its midst\f + \fr 1:4 \ft Or “middle” \f* \add it was\add* like \add the\add* outward appearance of amber stone from the midst\f + \fr 1:4 \ft Or “middle” \f* of the fire.
\v 5 And from its midst\f + \fr 1:5 \ft Or “middle” \f* \add was\add* the likeness of four living creatures, and this \add was\add* their appearance: ⸤a human form⸥,\f + \fr 1:5 \ft Literally “this their appearance the likeness of a human to them” \f*
\v 6 and ⸤each had four faces⸥,\f + \fr 1:6 \ft Literally “and four faces to each” \f* and ⸤each of them had four wings⸥.\f + \fr 1:6 \ft Literally “and four wings to each for them” \f*
\v 7 And their legs \add were\add* straight legs, and the sole of their feet \add was\add* like the sole of \add the\add* foot of a calf, and \add they\add* were sparkling like the outward appearance of polished bronze.
\v 8 And under their wings \add were\add* ⸤human hands⸥\f + \fr 1:8 \ft Literally “hand his a man” \f* on their four sides. And their faces and their wings for the four of them \add were as follows\add*:
\v 9 ⸤their wings were touching one another⸥;\f + \fr 1:9 \ft Literally “their wings \fq were \ft touching each her sister” \f* ⸤each of them went straight forward⸥,\f + \fr 1:9 \ft Literally “they did not turn at their going” \f* ⸤without turning right or left⸥.\f + \fr 1:9 \ft Literally “each toward the side of his face they went” \f*
\v 10 The likeness of their faces \add was the\add* face of a human \add in front\add*, and \add the\add* face of a lion on the right ⸤of each of them⸥,\f + \fr 1:10 \ft Literally “of the four of them” \f* and the face of an ox on the left ⸤of each of them⸥,\f + \fr 1:10 \ft Literally “of the four of them” \f* and \add the\add* face of an eagle ⸤for each of them⸥.\f + \fr 1:10 \ft Literally “of the four of them” \f*
\v 11 So \add were\add* their faces; their wings \add were\add* spread out ⸤upward⸥;\f + \fr 1:11 \ft Literally “from to above” \f* each \add had\add* two touching one another and two covering their bodies.
\v 12 And each ⸤went straight forward⸥;\f + \fr 1:12 \ft Literally “toward the side of his face they went” \f* ⸤wherever the spirit went⸥\f + \fr 1:12 \ft Literally “towards which it was there the spirit” \f* they went, \add and\add* ⸤they did not turn as they went⸥.\f + \fr 1:12 \ft Literally “they did not turn at their going” \f*
\v 13 As for\f + \fr 1:13 \ft Or “And” \f* the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance \add was\add* like burning coals of fire, like the appearance of torches. It\f + \fr 1:13 \ft That is, the fire \f* \add was\add* moving to and fro between the living creatures, and ⸤the fire was very bright⸥\f + \fr 1:13 \ft Literally “brightness \fq was \ft for the fire” \f* and lightning \add was\add* going out from the fire.
\v 14 And the living creatures ⸤were speeding to and fro⸥\f + \fr 1:14 \ft Literally “sped forth and returned” \f* like the appearance of lightning.
\p
\v 15 And I saw the living creatures, and look! A wheel was on the earth\f + \fr 1:15 \ft Or “ground” \f* beside ⸤each of the living creatures that had four faces⸥.\f + \fr 1:15 \ft Literally “the living creatures for the four of his/its faces.” The LXX has “for the four of them.” \f*
\v 16 The appearance of the wheels and their construction \add was\add* like \add the\add* appearance of beryl,\f + \fr 1:16 \ft Or “chrysolite,” or “topaz”; this stone is difficult to identify exactly \f* and ⸤they all looked alike⸥,\f + \fr 1:16 \ft Literally “likeness \fq was \ft one for the four of them” \f* and their appearance and their construction \add was\add* ⸤like a wheel within a wheel⸥.\f + \fr 1:16 \ft Literally “as that it was a wheel in the midst of a wheel” \f*
\v 17 When they moved, they went toward their four sides; they did not ⸤veer at all as they went⸥.\f + \fr 1:17 \ft Literally “turn away when they went” \f*
\v 18 And their rims ⸤were high and awesome⸥,\f + \fr 1:18 \ft Literally “height \fq was \ft for them and awesomeness \fq was \ft for them” \f* and ⸤all four of⸥\f + \fr 1:18 \ft Literally “of the four of them” \f* their rims \add were\add* full of eyes \add all\add* around.

\v 20 ⸤Wherever⸥\f + \fr 1:20 \ft Literally “Toward which” \f* the spirit went they would go there, and the wheels rose, for the spirit of the living creatures\f + \fr 1:20 \ft Hebrew “creature” \f* \add was\add* in the wheels.

\v 22 Now\f + \fr 1:22 \ft Or “And” \f* \add the\add* likeness above the heads of the living creatures \add was\add* an expanse like the outward appearance of ⸤awesome⸥\f + \fr 1:22 \ft Literally “terrible” \f* ⸤ice⸥\f + \fr 1:22 \ft Literally “frozen water” \f* spread out above their heads ⸤upward⸥.\f + \fr 1:22 \ft Literally “from to upward” \f*
\v 23 And under the expanse their wings \add were stretched out\add* straight ⸤one toward the other⸥;\f + \fr 1:23 \ft Literally “each towards its sister” \f* each had two \add wings\add* covering them, and each had two \add wings\add* covering their bodies.

\v 27 And I saw \add something\add* like \add the\add* outward appearance of amber, \add something\add* like \add the\add* appearance of fire, \add with\add* a covering around \add it\add*, from the likeness of his loins and ⸤upward⸥.\f + \fr 1:27 \ft Literally “to above” \f* And from the likeness of his loins and ⸤downward⸥\f + \fr 1:27 \ft Literally “to down” \f* I saw \add something\add* like \add the\add* appearance of fire, and ⸤it was radiant all around⸥.\f + \fr 1:27 \ft Literally “brightness \fq was \ft for it around” \f*

\s1 The Call of Ezekiel to Speak God’s Words
\m
\v 1 And he said to me, “Son of man,\f + \fr 2:1 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* stand on your feet, so that I can speak with you.”
\v 2 And \add the\add* Spirit\f + \fr 2:2 \ft Or “\fq a \ft spirit” \f* came into me as he was speaking to me, and it set me on my feet, and I heard the one speaking to me.
\v 3 And he said to me, “Son of man,\f + \fr 2:3 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* I am sending you to the ⸤Israelites⸥,\f + \fr 2:3 \ft Literally “sons/children of Israel” \f* to nations\f + \fr 2:3 \ft Or “a people” \f* \add who are\add* rebelling, who rebelled against me, they and their ancestors,\f + \fr 2:3 \ft Hebrew “fathers” \f* they transgressed against me ⸤until this very day⸥.\f + \fr 2:3 \ft Literally “until the day the this” \f*
\v 4 And the children\f + \fr 2:4 \ft Or “sons” \f* \add are\add* ⸤impudent⸥\f + \fr 2:4 \ft Literally “hard of face” \f* and ⸤stubborn⸥,\f + \fr 2:4 \ft Literally “strong of heart” \f* \add and so\add* I am sending you to them, and you must say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh!’
\v 5 And they, whether they listen or whether they fail \add to listen\add*, for they \add are\add* a rebellious house, they will know that a prophet was in their midst.
\v 6 And you, son of man,\f + \fr 2:6 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* you must not be afraid of them, and you must not be afraid of their words, because\f + \fr 2:6 \ft Or “although” \f* briers and thorns \add are\add* with you, and you \add are\add* sitting among scorpions. You must not be afraid of their words, and you must not be dismayed because of their ⸤looks⸥,\f + \fr 2:6 \ft Literally “faces” \f* for they \add are\add* a rebellious house.
\v 7 And you must speak my words to them whether they listen or whether they fail \add to listen\add*, for they \add are\add* rebellious.
\v 8 And you, son of man,\f + \fr 2:8 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* hear what I \add am\add* speaking to you: you must not be rebellious like \add the\add* house of rebellion. Open your mouth and eat what I \add am\add* giving to you.”
\v 9 And I looked,\f + \fr 2:9 \ft Or “saw” \f* and look! There was a hand stretched out to me, and look! In it \add was\add* ⸤a scroll with writing⸥.\f + \fr 2:9 \ft Literally “a scroll of a book” \f*
\v 10 And he rolled it out\f + \fr 2:10 \ft Or “he spread it out” \f* ⸤before me⸥,\f + \fr 2:10 \ft Literally “to the face of me” \f* and it \add was\add* written \add on the\add* front and back, and there \add were\add* written on it laments and mourning and wailing.\f + \fr 2:10 \ft Or “woe” \f*
\c 3
\p
\v 1 And he said to me, “Son of man,\f + \fr 3:1 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* what you find, eat! Eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.”
\v 2 And I opened my mouth, and he gave me this scroll to eat,
\v 3 and he said to me, “Son of man,\f + \fr 3:3 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* you must give your stomach \add this\add* to eat, and you must fill your belly \add with\add* this scroll that I \add am\add* giving to you.” And I ate, and it became ⸤like sweet honey⸥\f + \fr 3:3 \ft Literally “like honey for sweetness” \f* in my mouth.
\v 4 And he said to me, “Son of man,\f + \fr 3:4 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* come! Go to the house of Israel, and you must speak to them with my words.
\v 5 For you are sent to the house of Israel, not to a people ⸤of obscure speech⸥\f + \fr 3:5 \ft Literally “obscure of lip” \f* and ⸤of a difficult language⸥,\f + \fr 3:5 \ft Literally “heavy/thick of tongue” \f*
\v 6 \add and\add* not to many nations ⸤of obscure speech⸥\f + \fr 3:6 \ft Literally “obscure of tongue” \f* and ⸤a difficult language⸥\f + \fr 3:6 \ft Literally “heavy/thick of tongue” \f* ⸤whose words⸥\f + \fr 3:6 \ft Literally “their words” \f* you do not understand, \add for\add* if I had sent you to them they would have listened to you.
\v 7 And the house of Israel, they are not willing to listen to you, for they \add are\add* not willing to listen to me, for all of the house of Israel is hard of forehead, and they \add are\add* hard of heart.
\v 8 \add But\add* look, I have made\f + \fr 3:8 \ft Or “set” \f* your face hard ⸤against⸥\f + \fr 3:8 \ft Literally “to correspond \fq to \ft ” \f* their faces and your forehead hard ⸤against⸥\f + \fr 3:8 \ft Literally “to correspond \fq to \ft ” \f* their forehead.
\v 9 Like a diamond ⸤harder than flint⸥\f + \fr 3:9 \ft Literally “hard more than flint” \f* I have made your forehead; you must not fear them, and you must not be dismayed ⸤on account of them⸥,\f + \fr 3:9 \ft Literally “from the face of them” \f* for they ⸤are a rebellious house⸥.\f + \fr 3:9 \ft Literally “\fq are \ft a house of rebellion” \f*
\v 10 And he said to me, “Son of man,\f + \fr 3:10 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* all of my words that I shall speak to you, receive into\f + \fr 3:10 \ft Hebrew “in” \f* your heart and hear with your ears.
\v 11 And come, go to the exiles,\f + \fr 3:11 \ft Hebrew “exile” \f* to the children\f + \fr 3:11 \ft Or “sons” \f* of your people, and you must speak to them, and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh!’ whether they listen or whether they fail \add to listen\add*.”
\v 12 And the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me the sound of a great earthquake when the glory of Yahweh rose from its place.
\v 13 And \add it was\add* the sound of the wings of the living creatures touching lightly\f + \fr 3:13 \ft Or “brushing against” \f* ⸤one against the other⸥,\f + \fr 3:13 \ft Literally “each against each \fq its sister \ft \f* and the sound of the wheels beside them and \add the\add* sound of a great earthquake.
\v 14 And \add the\add* Spirit lifted me and took me, and I went \add in\add* bitterness in the heat of my spirit, and the hand of Yahweh \add was\add* strong on me.
\v 15 And I went to the exiles\f + \fr 3:15 \ft Hebrew “exile” \f* \add at\add* Tel Abib, who \add were\add* dwelling near the ⸤Kebar River⸥,\f + \fr 3:15 \ft Literally “river of Kebar” \f* and I sat \add where\add* they \add were\add* dwelling. I sat there seven days in the midst of them, stunned.
\v 16 And then it happened\f + \fr 3:16 \ft Or “was” \f* at \add the\add* end of seven days, ⸤the word of Yahweh came⸥\f + \fr 3:16 \ft Literally “and it was the word of Yahweh to me to say \fq saying \ft ” \f* to me, saying,
\v 17 “Son of man,\f + \fr 3:17 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* I have appointed you \add as\add* a watchman for the house of Israel. When you hear a word from my mouth, then you must warn them from me.
\v 18 ⸤When I say⸥\f + \fr 3:18 \ft Literally “at/in my saying” \f* to the wicked, ‘Surely you will die,’ and you do not warn him and you do not speak to warn \add the\add* wicked from his wicked way ⸤so that he may live⸥,\f + \fr 3:18 \ft Literally “so that \fq you \ft let him live” \f* that wicked \add person\add* will die because of his guilt, and from your hand I will seek his blood.
\v 19 And you, if you do warn \add the\add* wicked and he does not turn from his wickedness and from his wicked way, on account of his guilt he will die, and you yourself will have saved your life.\f + \fr 3:19 \ft Or “soul,” or “self” \f*
\v 20 And ⸤when the righteous turns from his righteousness⸥\f + \fr 3:20 \ft Literally “and at \fq the \ft to turn of \fq the \ft righteous from his righteousness” \f* and does injustice, and I place\f + \fr 3:20 \ft Or “give” \f* a stumbling block ⸤before him⸥,\f + \fr 3:20 \ft Literally “to the face of him” \f* he will die, for you did not warn him. Because of his sin he will die, and his righteousness\f + \fr 3:20 \ft Or “righteous deeds” \f* that he did will not be remembered, and his blood I shall seek from your hand.
\v 21 And if you warn him, the righteous, not to sin, and \add the\add* righteous does not sin, surely he will live, for he heeded a warning. And you will have saved your life.”\f + \fr 3:21 \ft Or “soul,” or “self” \f*
\p
\v 22 And the hand of Yahweh was on me there, and he said to me, “Rise up, go out to the valley, and there I will speak with you.”
\v 23 And I rose up, and I went to the valley, and, look, there the glory of Yahweh \add was\add* standing, like the glory that I saw near the ⸤Kebar River⸥,\f + \fr 3:23 \ft Literally “river of Kebar” \f* and I fell on my face.
\v 24 And \add the\add* Spirit\f + \fr 3:24 \ft Or “\fq a \ft spirit” \f* came into me, and it made me stand on my feet, and he spoke with me and said to me, “Come, shut yourself ⸤inside your house⸥,\f + \fr 3:24 \ft Literally “in the midst of your house” \f*
\v 25 and you, son of man,\f + \fr 3:25 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* look, they will place\f + \fr 3:25 \ft Or “give” \f* cords on you, and they will tie you up with them. Then you will not go out into the midst of them.
\v 26 And I will make your tongue cling to the roof of your mouth, and you will be silenced, and you will not be a reproving man for them, for they ⸤are a rebellious house⸥.\f + \fr 3:26 \ft Literally “a house of rebellion” \f*
\v 27 And when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you must say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “The \add one\add* hearing him, let him hear, and the \add one\add* failing \add to hear\add*, let him fail,” ’ for they ⸤are a rebellious house⸥.\f + \fr 3:27 \ft Literally “a house of rebellion” \f*

\v 1 “Now,\f + \fr 4:1 \ft Or “And” \f* son of man,\f + \fr 4:1 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* take for yourself a brick, and you must put it ⸤before you⸥,\f + \fr 4:1 \ft Literally “to the face of you” \f* and you must portray on it a city, Jerusalem.
\v 2 And you must build against it siege works, and you must build against it \add a\add* bulwark, and you must heap against it a siege ramp, and you must set up against it camps and put against it a battering ram all around.
\v 3 And take for yourself a plate of iron, and you must place it \add as\add* a wall of iron between you and the city, and you must set your face against it, and it must be ⸤under siege⸥,\f + \fr 4:3 \ft Literally “in the siege” \f* and you must lay the siege against it; it is a sign for the house of Israel.
\v 4 And you, lie down on your left side, and you must put\f + \fr 4:4 \ft Or “you will put” \f* the guilt of the house of Israel on it. You will carry their guilt the number of days that you will lie on it.
\v 5 And I will give to you the years of their guilt according to \add the\add* number of \add the\add* days, three hundred and ninety days, and you must bear the guilt\f + \fr 4:5 \ft Or “punishment” \f* of the house of Israel.
\v 6 When you have completed these, then you must lie a second \add time\add* on your right side; and you must bear the guilt\f + \fr 4:6 \ft Or “punishment” \f* of the house of Judah forty days, a day for each year, a day for each year I give it to you.
\v 7 And toward the siege of Jerusalem you must set your face and your bared arm; then you must prophesy against it.
\v 8 Now\f + \fr 4:8 \ft Or “and” \f* look! I \add will\add* put on you cords, and you may not turn yourself from \add one\add* side to your \add other\add* side until you complete the days of your siege.
\s1 Ezekiel’s Strange Defiled Meal
\m
\v 9 “And you, take for yourself\f + \fr 4:9 \ft Hebrew “you” \f* wheat and barley and beans and lentils and millet\f + \fr 4:9 \ft Or “sorghum” \f* and spelt, and you must put them in one vessel, and you must make them for yourself\f + \fr 4:9 \ft Hebrew “you” \f* into a food \add during\add* the number of days that you \add are\add* lying on your side; three hundred and ninety days you shall eat it.
\v 10 And your food that you will eat\f + \fr 4:10 \ft Hebrew “will eat it” \f* \add will be\add* according to weight; twenty shekels for each day ⸤at fixed times⸥\f + \fr 4:10 \ft Literally “from time to time” \f* you shall eat it.
\v 11 And ⸤an amount of water⸥\f + \fr 4:11 \ft Literally “water by amount” \f* you shall drink, a sixth of a hin; ⸤at fixed times⸥\f + \fr 4:11 \ft Literally “from time to time” \f* you shall drink \add it\add*.
\v 12 And \add as a\add* bread-cake of barley you shall eat it, and ⸤with human excrement⸥\f + \fr 4:12 \ft Literally “with human dung of the excrement of the human” \f* you shall bake it before their eyes.”
\v 13 And Yahweh said, “Thus shall the ⸤Israelites⸥\f + \fr 4:13 \ft Literally “sons/children of Israel” \f* eat their unclean food among the nations ⸤where I will scatter them⸥.”\f + \fr 4:13 \ft Literally “which I will scatter them there” \f*
\v 14 And I said, “Ah, Lord Yahweh! Look! I have not been defiling myself, and a dead body and mangled carcass I have not eaten from my childhood until now, and ⸤unclean meat⸥\f + \fr 4:14 \ft Literally “flesh of unclean meat” \f* has not come into my mouth!”
\v 15 And he said to me, “See I will give you ⸤cattle manure⸥\f + \fr 4:15 \ft Literally “the manure of cattle” \f* in the place of the feces of a human, and you may prepare your food on it.”
\v 16 And he said to me, “Son of man,\f + \fr 4:16 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* look, I \add am\add* going to break the ⸤supply⸥\f + \fr 4:16 \ft Literally “staff” \f* of bread in Jerusalem, and they will eat bread by weight, ⸤anxiously⸥,\f + \fr 4:16 \ft Literally “and with worry” \f* and ⸤rationed water⸥,\f + \fr 4:16 \ft Literally “and water by amount” \f* and they will drink with horror,

\v 1 “And you, son of man,\f + \fr 5:1 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* take for yourself\f + \fr 5:1 \ft Hebrew “you” \f* a sword, sharp \add as\add* ⸤a barber’s razor⸥.\f + \fr 5:1 \ft Literally “the razor of the barbers” \f* Take it for yourself, and you must cause \add it\add* to pass over your head and over your beard, and you must take for yourself a set of scales for weighing, and you must divide them.\f + \fr 5:1 \ft That is, the hairs \f*

\v 3 And you must take from these a few in number, and you must tuck them in your hem.
\v 4 And from them again you shall take \add some\add*, and you must throw them in the middle of the fire, and you must burn them with fire; from it a fire will go out to all of the house of Israel.
\v 5 Thus says the Lord Yahweh: This \add is\add* Jerusalem in the midst of the nations \add where\add* I have put her, and countries \add are\add* around her.
\v 6 But she has rebelled against my regulations to the point of wickedness more than the nations, and my statutes more than the countries that \add are\add* around her; for they rejected my regulations, and \add as for\add* my statutes, they did not walk in them.
\v 7 Therefore, thus says the Lord Yahweh: Because of your commotion more than the nations that \add are\add* around you—you did not walk in my statutes, and you did not do my regulations, and according to the regulations of the nations that \add are\add* around you, you did not do.
\v 8 Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: Look! I, ⸤even I⸥,\f + \fr 5:8 \ft Literally “surely I” \f* am against you, and I will execute judgment in the midst of you before the eyes of the nations,

\v 12 A third of you will die because of the plague, and because of the famine they will perish in the midst of you, and a third will fall through the sword around you, and a third I will scatter to every direction of the wind, and I will draw \add the\add* sword behind them.
\v 13 And my anger will come to an end, and I will place my rage on them, and I will relent, and they will know that I, Yahweh, have spoken in my passion ⸤when I fully vent my rage against them⸥.\f + \fr 5:13 \ft Literally “at my finishing my anger against them” \f*
\v 14 And I will make you into a desolate place and into a disgrace among the nations that surround you before the eyes of ⸤every one who passes by⸥.\f + \fr 5:14 \ft Literally “every one of passing by” \f*
\v 15 And it will be\f + \fr 5:15 \ft Or “and you will be” \f* \add an\add* object of taunting\f + \fr 5:15 \ft Hebrew “taunt” \f* and \add an\add* object of mockery, a warning and a horror to the nations that \add are\add* around you whenever I execute judgments against you in anger and in wrath and in furious punishments! I, Yahweh, have spoken!
\v 16 When I send my arrows of deadly famine against them, which will be as destruction that I will send \add in order\add* to destroy you, I will increase famine against you, and I will break ⸤the supply of food⸥\f + \fr 5:16 \ft Literally “staff of bread” \f* for you.
\v 17 And I will send against you famine and fierce animals,\f + \fr 5:17 \ft Hebrew “animal” \f* and they will make you childless; and plague and blood will pass through you, and I will bring \add the\add* sword upon you. I, Yahweh, I have spoken!”

\v 3 And he sent out \add the\add* form of a hand, and he took me by a lock of hair of my head, and \add the\add* Spirit lifted me between earth and heaven, and it brought me to Jerusalem in visions of God to the doorway of \add the\add* inner gate ⸤that faced north⸥,\f + \fr 8:3 \ft Literally “the \fq one \ft facing north” \f* \add at\add* which there \add was\add* the seat of the image of jealousy, which was making jealous.

\v 1 And I looked, and look! On the expanse that \add was\add* above the head of the cherubim \add something\add* like a stone of sapphire,\f + \fr 10:1 \ft Or “lapis lazuli” \f* \add and\add* like \add the\add* appearance of \add the\add* shape of a throne it appeared above them.

And look, there were twenty-five men in the doorway of the gate, and I saw Jaazaniah the son of Azzur in the midst of them, and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, the commanders of the people.
\v 2 And he said to me, “Son of man,\f + \fr 11:2 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* these \add are\add* the men ⸤who devise mischief⸥,\f + \fr 11:2 \ft Literally “the ones devising mischief” \f* and \add who are\add* offering bad counsel in this city,
\v 3 who \add are\add* saying, “The building of houses \add is\add* not near; \add the city\add* is the pot, and we \add are\add* the flesh.
\v 4 Therefore prophesy against them! Prophesy, son of man!”\f + \fr 11:4 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f*
\p
\v 5 And the Spirit of Yahweh fell on me, and he said to me, “Say, ‘thus says Yahweh: “This is what you think, house of Israel, and I myself know them,\f + \fr 11:5 \ft Hebrew “it” \f* the thoughts of your spirit.
\v 6 You made your slain ones numerous in this city, and you have filled its streets \add with\add* slain ones.” ’\f + \fr 11:6 \ft Hebrew “slain one” \f*
\v 7 Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Your slain ones whom you put in its midst, they \add are\add* the flesh, and it is \add the\add* pot, and I\f + \fr 11:7 \ft Hebrew “he” \f* will bring you out from its midst.
\v 8 \add The\add* sword you have feared, and \add the\add* sword I will bring against you!” ⸤declares⸥\f + \fr 11:8 \ft Literally “declaration of” \f* the Lord Yahweh.
\v 9 “And I will bring you out from its midst, and I will give you into \add the\add* hand of strangers, and I will execute judgments against you.
\v 10 By the sword you will fall at the border of Israel; I will judge you, and you will know that I \add am\add* Yahweh.
\v 11 It will not be as a pot to you, and \add so\add* you would be\f + \fr 11:11 \ft Or “will be” \f* in the midst of it as flesh, \add for\add* at the border of Israel I will judge you.
\v 12 And you will know that I \add am\add* Yahweh, whose\f + \fr 11:12 \ft Hebrew “which” \f* rules you did not follow, and whose\f + \fr 11:12 \ft Hebrew “my” \f* regulations you did not do, but according to the regulations of the nations that \add are\add* around you, you acted.” ’\f + \fr 11:12 \ft Or “did” \f*

\v 13 And it happened \add that\add* ⸤as I was prophesying⸥,\f + \fr 11:13 \ft Literally “at my prophesying” \f* Pelatiahu the son of Benaiahu died! \v 14 And the word of Yahweh ⸤came⸥\f + \fr 11:14 \ft Literally “was” \f* to me, ⸤saying⸥,\f + \fr 11:14 \ft Or “to say” \f*
\v 15 “Son of man,\f + \fr 11:15 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* your brothers, your brothers, the men of your redemption, and all of the house of Israel, all of it, ⸤who said concerning the inhabitants of Jerusalem⸥,\f + \fr 11:15 \ft Literally “which they said concerning them the inhabitants of Jerusalem” \f* ‘They are far from Yahweh, \add therefore\add* to us this land was given as a possession.’
\v 16 Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Though I have removed them \add far away\add* among the nations and though I have scattered them among the countries, yet I was a sanctuary to them \add for a\add* little while in the countries ⸤to which they have gone⸥.’ ”\f + \fr 11:16 \ft Literally “which they came there” \f*
\v 17 Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “And I will assemble you from the peoples, and I will gather you from the countries \add to\add* which you were scattered among them, and I will give the land of Israel to you.
\v 18 And \add when\add* they come there, then they will remove all of its vile idols and all of its detestable things from it.
\v 19 And I will give to them one heart, and a new spirit I will give\f + \fr 11:19 \ft Or “put” \f* in their inner parts. And I will remove their\f + \fr 11:19 \ft Hebrew “the” \f* heart of stone from their body, and I will give to them a heart of flesh,
\v 20 so that they may walk in my statutes, and they will keep my regulations, and they will do them, and they will be to me a people, and I myself will be to them as God.
\v 21 But to\f + \fr 11:21 \ft Or “and to” \f* the heart of their abominations and the detestable things their heart is going. I will bring their way on their head,” ⸤declares⸥\f + \fr 11:21 \ft Literally “declaration of” \f* the Lord Yahweh.’ ”
\p
\v 22 Then\f + \fr 11:22 \ft Or “And” \f* the cherubim lifted up their wings, and their\f + \fr 11:22 \ft Or “the” \f* wheels \add were\add* beside them, and the glory of the God of Israel ⸤was over them⸥.\f + \fr 11:22 \ft Literally “from to above” \f*
\v 23 And the glory of Yahweh went up from the midst of the city, and it stood \add still\add* on the mountain that \add is\add* to the east of the city.
\v 24 And \add the\add* Spirit lifted me up, and it brought me to Chaldea, to the exiles,\f + \fr 11:24 \ft Hebrew “exile” \f* in the vision by the spirit of God; and the vision that I had seen ⸤left me⸥.\f + \fr 11:24 \ft Literally “went up from \fq being \ft upon me” \f*
\v 25 And I spoke to the exiles\f + \fr 11:25 \ft Hebrew “exile” \f* all of the words of Yahweh that he had shown me.

\s1 The Announcement of the Imminent Coming of the Exile

\v 1 And the word of Yahweh ⸤came⸥\f + \fr 12:1 \ft Literally “was” \f* to me, ⸤saying⸥,\f + \fr 12:1 \ft Literally “to say” \f*
\v 2 “Son of man,\f + \fr 12:2 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* you \add are\add* dwelling in the midst of the house of rebellion ⸤who has eyes to see and they do not see⸥;\f + \fr 12:2 \ft Literally “which eyes \fq are \ft for them to see and not they see” \f* ⸤they have ears to hear⸥,\f + \fr 12:2 \ft Literally “ears \fq are \ft for them to hear” \f* and they do not hear, for they \add are\add* a house of rebellion.
\v 3 And you, son of man,\f + \fr 12:3 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* prepare for yourself\f + \fr 12:3 \ft Hebrew “you” \f* \add the\add* baggage of an exile, and go into exile by day before their eyes. And you must go into\f + \fr 12:3 \ft Hebrew “in” \f* exile from your place to another place before their eyes; perhaps they will see that they \add are\add* a house of rebellion.
\v 4 And you must bring out your baggage like \add the\add* baggage of an exile by day before their eyes, and you must go out in the evening before their eyes like ⸤those who go into exile⸥.\f + \fr 12:4 \ft Literally “like \fq the \ft goers out of an exile” \f*
\v 5 Before their eyes dig through for yourself,\f + \fr 12:5 \ft Hebrew “you” \f* through the wall, and you must bring \add the baggage\add* out through it.
\v 6 Before their eyes, on your\f + \fr 12:6 \ft Literally “the” \f* shoulder, you must lift up \add the baggage\add* in the dusk, \add and\add* your face you must cover, so that you may not see the land, for I make you \add as\add* a sign to the house of Israel.”
\v 7 And I did ⸤just as⸥\f + \fr 12:7 \ft Literally “so as that” \f* I was commanded; my baggage, like \add the\add* baggage of an exile, I brought out by day, and in the evening I dug through for myself\f + \fr 12:7 \ft Hebrew “me” \f* into\f + \fr 12:7 \ft Hebrew “in” \f* the wall with my hand in the dusk; I brought \add the baggage\add* on \add my\add* shoulder; I carried \add it\add* before their eyes.
\v 8 And the word of Yahweh ⸤came⸥\f + \fr 12:8 \ft Literally “was” \f* to me in the morning, ⸤saying⸥,\f + \fr 12:8 \ft Literally “to say” \f*
\v 9 “Son of man,\f + \fr 12:9 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* did not they, the house of Israel, the house of rebellion, say to you, ‘What \add are\add* you doing?’
\v 10 Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “This oracle \add is about\add* the prince in Jerusalem and ⸤the entire⸥\f + \fr 12:10 \ft Literally “all of” \f* house of Israel ⸤who are among them⸥.” ’\f + \fr 12:10 \ft Literally “which they \fq are \ft in the midst of them” \f*
\v 11 Say, ‘I am your sign, \add and\add* ⸤just as⸥\f + \fr 12:11 \ft Literally “as that” \f* I did, so will it be done to them in the exile; into\f + \fr 12:11 \ft Hebrew “in” \f* captivity they will go.’
\v 12 And the prince who \add is\add* in the midst of them, on \add his\add* shoulder he will carry \add the baggage\add* in the dusk, and\f + \fr 12:12 \ft Or “in the dusk he will go out” \f* he will go out; ⸤the wall will be dug through⸥\f + \fr 12:12 \ft Literally “through the wall they will dig” \f* to bring him through it; and he will cover his face so that he will\f + \fr 12:12 \ft Or “may” \f* not see the land with his\f + \fr 12:12 \ft Hebrew “the” \f* eye.
\v 13 And I will spread out my net on him, and he will be captured in my hunting snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, the land of the Chaldeans, but he will not see it, and there he will die.
\v 14 And all who \add are\add* around him, his help\f + \fr 12:14 \ft Or “support” \f* and all of his troops I will scatter ⸤in every direction⸥,\f + \fr 12:14 \ft Literally “to every direction of the wind” \f* and I will draw\f + \fr 12:14 \ft Or “unsheathe” \f* \add the\add* sword behind them.

\v 16 But\f + \fr 12:16 \ft Or “And” \f* I will spare from them ⸤a few men⸥\f + \fr 12:16 \ft Literally “men of number” \f* from \add the\add* sword, from \add the\add* famine and from \add the\add* plague, so that they may tell of all their abominations among the nations \add to\add* which they will go, and they will know that I \add am\add* Yahweh.”
\p
\v 17 And the word of Yahweh ⸤came⸥\f + \fr 12:17 \ft Literally “was” \f* to me, ⸤saying⸥,\f + \fr 12:17 \ft Literally “to say” \f*
\v 18 “Son of man,\f + \fr 12:18 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* you must eat your food with trembling, and your water with shuddering, and with anxiety you must drink.
\v 19 And you must say to the people of the land, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh to the inhabitants of Jerusalem about the land of Israel: “They will eat their food with anxiety and their water they will drink with horror, because their land will be desolate from\f + \fr 12:19 \ft Or “of” \f* its fullness because of all the violence of ⸤those who are dwelling in it⸥.\f + \fr 12:19 \ft Literally “the ones dwelling in it” \f*

\v 21 And the word of Yahweh ⸤came⸥\f + \fr 12:21 \ft Literally “was” \f* to me, ⸤saying⸥,\f + \fr 12:21 \ft Literally “to say” \f*
\v 22 “Son of man,\f + \fr 12:22 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* what \add is\add* this proverb ⸤you people have⸥\f + \fr 12:22 \ft Literally “to you” \f* about the land of Israel, ⸤saying⸥,\f + \fr 12:22 \ft Literally “to you” \f* ‘⸤The days are prolonged⸥,\f + \fr 12:22 \ft Literally “they are long the days” \f* and every vision has come to nothing.’

\v 1 And the word of Yahweh ⸤came⸥\f + \fr 13:1 \ft Literally “was” \f* to me, ⸤saying⸥,\f + \fr 13:1 \ft Or “to say” \f*

\v 5 You did not go up into\f + \fr 13:5 \ft Hebrew “in” \f* the breaches and repair a wall for the house of Israel to stand \add firm\add* in the battle on the day of Yahweh.
\v 6 They saw falseness and ⸤a lying divination⸥,\f + \fr 13:6 \ft Literally “a divination of a lie” \f* the ones saying, ‘Declaration of Yahweh!’ and Yahweh did not send them, and they wait ⸤for the confirmation of their word⸥.\f + \fr 13:6 \ft Literally “to confirm a word” \f*
\v 7 Have you not seen ⸤a false vision⸥\f + \fr 13:7 \ft Literally “vision of falseness” \f* and spoken \add a\add* ⸤lying divination⸥,\f + \fr 13:7 \ft Literally “divination of a lie” \f* and \add you\add* said, ‘Declaration of Yahweh!’ but ⸤I myself did not speak⸥.\f + \fr 13:7 \ft Literally “I not I spoke” \f*

\s1 Condemnation of Israel’s Idolatrous Elders
\m
\v 1 And men from the elders of Israel came to me, and they sat ⸤before me⸥.\f + \fr 14:1 \ft Literally “to the face of me” \f*
\v 2 And the word of Yahweh ⸤came⸥\f + \fr 14:2 \ft Literally “was” \f* to me, ⸤saying⸥,\f + \fr 14:2 \ft Literally “to say” \f*

\v 17 But my eye took pity on them by not destroying them, and ⸤I did not completely destroy them⸥\f + \fr 20:17 \ft Literally “and not I make them complete destruction” \f* in the desert.

\v 23 What is more, ⸤I swore⸥\f + \fr 20:23 \ft Literally “I will raise my hand” \f* to them in the desert to scatter them among the nations and to disperse them in the lands,

\v 3 and they prostituted \add themselves\add* in Egypt in their childhood; they were prostituting \add themselves\add* there, \add and\add* their breasts were fondled, and there they caressed the bosoms of their virginity.
\v 4 Now \add as for\add* their names, the older \add was\add* Oholah, and Oholibah \add was\add* her sister. And ⸤they became mine⸥,\f + \fr 23:4 \ft Literally “they were for me” \f* and they bore sons and daughters, and their names\f + \fr 23:4 \ft Hebrew “name” \f* \add are\add* Samaria \add for\add* Oholah, and Jerusalem \add for\add* Oholibah.
\v 5 And Oholah prostituted \add herself\add* ⸤while she was still mine⸥,\f + \fr 23:5 \ft Literally “under me” \f* and she lusted for her lovers, for Assyria \add who was\add* nearby,
\v 6 clothed in blue cloth, governors and prefects, ⸤handsome young men⸥\f + \fr 23:6 \ft Literally “young men of handsomeness/beauty” \f* \add and\add* all of them horsemen, ⸤experts on horseback⸥.\f + \fr 23:6 \ft Literally “riders \fq of \ft horsemen” \f*
\v 7 And she bestowed her fornication on them, \add on\add* the choice \add ones\add* of the ⸤Assyrians⸥,\f + \fr 23:7 \ft Literally “sons of Assyria” \f* all of them, and with every one \add after\add* which she lusted; with all of their idols she defiled herself.
\v 8 And her whorings from \add the time of\add* Egypt she \add did\add* not abandon, for they slept with her in her childhood, and they caressed the bosoms of her virginity, and they poured out their fornication on her.
\v 9 Therefore I gave her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the ⸤Assyrians⸥\f + \fr 23:9 \ft Literally “sons of Assyria” \f* ⸤after whom she lusted⸥.\f + \fr 23:9 \ft Literally “which she lusted for them” \f*
\v 10 They uncovered her nakedness; they took her sons and her daughters, and they killed her with the sword. And she became a name for the women, and they executed judgments against her.
\p
\v 11 “And though Oholibah her sister saw, yet in her lust ⸤she behaved more corruptly than her⸥,\f + \fr 23:11 \ft Literally “she behaved corruptly \fq in \ft lust from her” \f* and her whoring \add was\add* more than the prostitution of her sister.
\v 12 She lusted after the ⸤Assyrians⸥,\f + \fr 23:12 \ft Literally “sons of Assyria” \f* governors and prefects, warriors\f + \fr 23:12 \ft Hebrew uncertain \f* clothed in\f + \fr 23:12 \ft Or “to” \f* perfection,\f + \fr 23:12 \ft Or “in full armor” or “wonderfully dressed” \f* ⸤expert horsemen⸥,\f + \fr 23:12 \ft Literally “horsemen, riders of horses” \f* all of them ⸤handsome young men⸥.\f + \fr 23:12 \ft Literally “young men of handsomeness” \f*
\v 13 And I saw that she was defiled; ⸤they had both taken the same path⸥!\f + \fr 23:13 \ft Literally “way one \fq was \ft for the two of them” \f*
\v 14 And she increased her whorings, and she saw men carved\f + \fr 23:14 \ft Or “portrayed” \f* on the wall, images of Chaldeans\f + \fr 23:14 \ft According to the reading tradition (\fqa Qere \ft ) \f* carved in red,
\v 15 belted with a belt at\f + \fr 23:15 \ft Or “around” \f* their waist with turbans on their heads, all of them \add giving\add* \add the\add* appearance of adjutants,\f + \fr 23:15 \ft Or “officers” \f* the image\f + \fr 23:15 \ft Or “likeness” \f* of the ⸤Babylonians⸥;\f + \fr 23:15 \ft Literally “sons of Babylon” \f* Chaldea \add was\add* the land of their birth.
\v 16 And she lusted for them ⸤when her eyes saw them⸥,\f + \fr 23:16 \ft Literally “at the sight of her eyes” \f* and she sent messengers to them \add at\add* Chaldea.
\v 17 And so the ⸤Babylonians⸥\f + \fr 23:17 \ft Literally “sons of Babylon” \f* came to her \add for the\add* bed of lovemaking; and they defiled her with their fornication, and she was defiled by them, and she turned from them.
\v 18 And she revealed her whorings, and she revealed her nakedness, and so I turned from her ⸤just as⸥\f + \fr 23:18 \ft Literally “as that” \f* I turned from her sister.
\v 19 Yet\f + \fr 23:19 \ft Or “And” \f* she increased her whorings, ⸤recalling⸥\f + \fr 23:19 \ft Or “remembering” \f* the days of her childhood when she was prostituted\f + \fr 23:19 \ft Or “prostituted \fq herself \ft ” \f* in the land of Egypt.
\v 20 And she lusted after her male lovers whose genitalia \add were the\add* genitalia of male donkeys and \add their\add* seminal emission \add was the\add* seminal emission of horses.
\v 21 And you longed \add after\add* the obscene conduct of your youth when your bosom was caressed by Egypt, fondling your young breasts.
\p
\v 22 “Therefore, Oholibah, thus says the Lord Yahweh: ‘Look! I \add am\add* stirring up your lovers against you \add concerning\add* whom you turned away, and I will bring them against you from all around:
\v 23 the ⸤Babylonians⸥\f + \fr 23:23 \ft Literally “sons of Babylon” \f* and all of the Chaldeans, Pekod and Shoa and Koa, all of the ⸤Assyrians⸥\f + \fr 23:23 \ft Literally “sons of Assyria” \f* \add along\add* with them, ⸤handsome young men⸥,\f + \fr 23:23 \ft Literally “young men of beauty/handsomeness” \f* governors and prefects, all of them adjutants\f + \fr 23:23 \ft Or “officers” \f* ⸤and excellent horsemen⸥.\f + \fr 23:23 \ft Literally “ones called riders of horses” \f*
\v 24 And they will come against you \add with\add* an army chariot and wagon and with a crowd\f + \fr 23:24 \ft Or “horde” or “host of” \f* of peoples; they will set \add themselves\add* against you \add from\add* all around \add with\add* large shield and small shield and helmet. And I will give ⸤before them⸥\f + \fr 23:24 \ft Literally “to the face of them” \f* judgment, and they will judge you with their judgments.
\v 25 And I will direct my zeal against you, and they will deal with you in anger; your nose and your ears they will remove, and ⸤those who are left⸥,\f + \fr 23:25 \ft Literally “and remainder your” \f* they will fall by the sword, and they will take your sons and your daughters, and ⸤your remnant⸥\f + \fr 23:25 \ft Literally “and remainder your” \f* will be consumed by fire.
\v 26 And they will strip you \add of\add* your clothes, and they will take ⸤your splendid jewelry⸥.\f + \fr 23:26 \ft Literally “the jewelry of splendor your”; or “your beautiful jewelry” \f*
\v 27 And I will put an end to your obscene conduct \add coming\add* from you and your fornication from the land of Egypt, and you will not lift your eyes to them; and you will not remember Egypt again.’
\v 28 For thus says the Lord Yahweh: ‘Look! I \add am\add* giving you into the hand of those you hated, into the hand of those from whom\f + \fr 23:28 \ft Literally “them” \f* you turned away.
\v 29 And they will deal with you in hatred, and they will take all of your acquisitions, and they will leave you naked and \add in\add* bareness; and the nakedness of your fornication and your obscene conduct and your whorings will be exposed.
\v 30 These \add things\add* \add are\add* accomplished\f + \fr 23:30 \ft Or “done” \f* against\f + \fr 23:30 \ft Hebrew “in” \f* you since you prostituted yourself after the nations, \add and\add* on account of that, you defiled yourself by their idols.
\v 31 You went in the \add same\add* way of your sister, and I will give her cup into your hand.” ’
\p
\v 32 Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “You will drink the deep and wide\f + \fr 23:32 \ft Or place “drink deep and wide the cup” \f* cup of your sister; you will be as laughter and as scorn; ⸤the cup holds so much⸥!\f + \fr 23:32 \ft Literally “a large among to hold” \f*
\v 33 You will be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, for a cup of horror and desolation \add is\add* the cup of your sister, Samaria.
\v 34 And you will drink it, and you will drain \add it\add*, and its potsherds you will gnaw, and you will tear out your breasts, for ⸤I myself⸥\f + \fr 23:34 \ft Literally “I, I” \f* spoke,” ⸤declares⸥\f + \fr 23:34 \ft Literally “declaration of” \f* the Lord Yahweh.
\v 35 Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Because you have forgotten me, and you threw me behind your back, now in turn\f + \fr 23:35 \ft Or “also” \f* you bear your obscene conduct and your whorings.”
\p
\v 36 And Yahweh said to me, “Son of man,\f + \fr 23:36 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* will you judge Oholah and Oholibah and declare their abominable deeds to\f + \fr 23:36 \ft Or “for” \f* them?
\v 37 For they committed adultery, and blood \add is\add* on their hands, and they committed adultery with their idols, and even their children that they had borne for me—they sacrificed them as food!
\v 38 Also they did this to me: they defiled my sanctuary on that day, and they profaned my Sabbaths,
\v 39 and when they slaughtered their children for their idols, they came to my sanctuary on that day to profane it. And look, ⸤this is what they did in my house⸥!\f + \fr 23:39 \ft Literally “thus they did in the midst of house my” \f*
\v 40 ⸤What is worse⸥,\f + \fr 23:40 \ft Literally “and also for/indeed” \f* they sent for men ⸤who come⸥\f + \fr 23:40 \ft Literally “coming” \f* from a distant place, \add to\add* whom a messenger \add was\add* sent to them, and look! They came! \add Men\add* for whom you bathed and painted your eyes, and you adorned yourself \add with\add* an ornament.
\v 41 And you sat on a magnificent couch and a table prepared ⸤before her⸥,\f + \fr 23:41 \ft Literally “to the face of her” \f* and my incense and my olive oil you put on her.\f + \fr 23:41 \ft Or “it” \f*
\v 42 And a sound of a carefree crowd \add was\add* with it,\f + \fr 23:42 \ft Or “her” \f* and in addition to \add these\add* men, ⸤a crowd of drunken men\f + \fr 23:42 \ft A problematic verse; reading according to the reading tradition (\fqa Qere \ft ) \f* was brought in⸥\f + \fr 23:42 \ft Literally “from an abundance of men being brought in drunken” \f* from \add the\add* desert,\f + \fr 23:42 \ft Or “wilderness” \f* and they put bracelets on their arms and a crown of splendor on their heads.
\v 43 And I said to\f + \fr 23:43 \ft Or “about” \f* the one worn out \add with\add* adulteries, ‘Now they will prostitute \add her\add* \add concerning\add* her fornication, even her.’\f + \fr 23:43 \ft Or “that \fq she \ft did” \f*
\v 44 And \add so\add* they went to her like going to a female\f + \fr 23:44 \ft Or “a woman” \f* prostitute; and thus they went to Oholah and to Oholibah, the women of obscene conduct.
\v 45 But righteous men, they will judge them \add with\add* \add the\add* judgment of committing adultery, and \add with\add* \add the\add* judgment of shedding blood; for they were committing adultery, and blood \add was\add* on their hands.”
\p
\v 46 For thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Bring up against them an assembly, and make them as a thing of horror and as plunder.
\v 47 And an assembly must stone them \add with\add* stones,\f + \fr 23:47 \ft Hebrew “stone” \f* and they must cut them down. With their swords they shall kill their sons and their daughters, and with fire they shall burn their houses.
\v 48 And ⸤I will cause obscene conduct to cease from the land⸥,\f + \fr 23:48 \ft Or “I will put an end to obscene conduct from the land” \f* and all of the women will be warned, and they will not do according to your wickedness.
\v 49 And they will repay your obscene conduct upon you, and the guilt of your idols you will bear, and you will know that I \add am\add* the Lord Yahweh.

\s1 The Boiling Pot and the Death of Ezekiel’s Wife
\m
\v 1 And the word of Yahweh ⸤came⸥\f + \fr 24:1 \ft Literally “was” \f* to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth \add day\add* of the month, ⸤saying⸥,\f + \fr 24:1 \ft Literally “to say” \f*
\v 2 “Son of man,\f + \fr 24:2 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* write for yourself the name of the day, ⸤this very day⸥.\f + \fr 24:2 \ft Literally “exactly the day the this” \f* The king of Babylon laid siege to Jerusalem on exactly this day!
\v 3 And ⸤deliver a proverb⸥\f + \fr 24:3 \ft Literally “quote a proverb”; “proverb a proverb” \f* to ⸤the rebellious house⸥,\f + \fr 24:3 \ft Literally “the house of rebellion” \f* and you must say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Place the pot! Place \add it\add* and also pour water into it.
\v 4 Gather its pieces to it, every good piece, thigh and shoulder, fill it \add with\add* choice bones;
\v 5 take the choicest of the flock, and also pile the bones\f + \fr 24:5 \ft Or possibly “logs”; the difference is one letter in Hebrew \f* under it; ⸤boil it vigorously⸥;\f + \fr 24:5 \ft Literally “boil its boiling” \f* indeed,\f + \fr 24:5 \ft Or “also” \f* its bones boiled in the midst of it.” ’ ”
\p
\v 6 Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Woe \add to\add* the city of bloodguilt! A pot that \add has\add* its rust in it; ⸤its rust did not go out from it⸥.\f + \fr 24:6 \ft Literally “rust her not went forth from her” \f* Bring it out ⸤piece by piece⸥;\f + \fr 24:6 \ft Literally “according to its pieces” \f* ⸤one is as good as another⸥.\f + \fr 24:6 \ft Literally “no lot has fallen on it” \f*
\v 7 For her blood was in the midst of her; ⸤she put it on a bare rock⸥;\f + \fr 24:7 \ft Literally “on barrenness of \fq a \ft rock she put it” \f* she \add did\add* not pour it on the ground to cover it \add with\add* dust.\f + \fr 24:7 \ft Or “earth” or “dirt” \f*
\v 8 To stir up rage, to avenge myself \add through\add* vengeance, I placed its blood on \add the\add* barrenness of a rock, ⸤so that it may not be covered⸥.”\f + \fr 24:8 \ft Literally “so \fq as \ft not to be covered” \f*
\p
\v 9 Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Woe \add to\add* the city of bloodguilt! I, even I, will make the pile of wood great!
\v 10 Pile up the logs; kindle the fire; finish \add cooking\add* the meat, and mix \add in\add* the spices, and let the bones be burned.\f + \fr 24:10 \ft Or “charred” \f*
\v 11 And ⸤make it stand⸥\f + \fr 24:11 \ft Literally “cause it to stand” \f* empty upon its burning coals so that it may become hot, and its copper may become molten and be melted in the midst of it,\f + \fr 24:11 \ft Literally “her” \f* \add so that\add* its uncleanness and its rust be consumed.
\v 12 \add Through\add* effort she has caused weariness; ⸤its thick rust⸥\f + \fr 24:12 \ft Literally “the abundance of its rust” \f* went not \add out of\add* it. Its rust! Into \add the\add* fire \add with\add* its rust!
\v 13 In your uncleanness \add is\add* obscene conduct, because I cleansed you, but you were not clean from your uncleanness; you will not be clean again until ⸤I fully vent my rage⸥\f + \fr 24:13 \ft Literally “until causing rest I to my rage” \f* on you.
\v 14 I, Yahweh, I have spoken. \add It is\add* coming, and I did \add it\add*; I will not disregard, and I will not take pity, and I will not reconsider. According to your ways and according to your deeds they will judge you!”\f + \fr 24:14 \ft Or “I will judge” \f* ⸤declares⸥\f + \fr 24:14 \ft Literally “declaration of” \f* the Lord Yahweh.
\p
\v 15 And the word of Yahweh ⸤came⸥\f + \fr 24:15 \ft Literally “was” \f* to me, ⸤saying⸥,\f + \fr 24:15 \ft Literally “to say” \f*
\v 16 “Son of man,\f + \fr 24:16 \ft Literally “to say” \f* look! I \add am\add* taking from you what is pleasing to your eyes with a plague,\f + \fr 24:16 \ft Or “blow” \f* but you shall not mourn, and you shall not weep, and your tears shall not run down.
\v 17 Sigh in silence \add for the\add* dead; you shall not make a mourning ceremony. Bind your turban on you, and you must put your sandals on your feet. \v 18 And I spoke to the people in the morning, and my wife died in the evening, and I did in the morning ⸤just as⸥\f + \fr 24:18 \ft Literally “as that” \f* I was commanded.
\v 19 And the people said to me, “Will you not make known to us what these \add things\add* that you are doing \add mean\add* for us?”
\v 20 And I said to them that the word of Yahweh ⸤came⸥\f + \fr 24:20 \ft Literally “was” \f* to me, ⸤saying⸥,\f + \fr 24:20 \ft Literally “to say” \f*
\v 21 “Say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Look! \v 22 and you shall do ⸤just as⸥\f + \fr 24:22 \ft Literally “as that” \f* I did: You shall not cover your \add upper\add* lip,\f + \fr 24:22 \ft Or “mustache” \f* and you shall not eat \add the\add* bread of ⸤mourners⸥.\f + \fr 24:22 \ft Literally “men” \f*
\v 23 And your turban \add must be\add* on your heads, and your sandals \add must be\add* on your feet. You shall not mourn, and you shall not weep, but you shall waste away because of your iniquities, and you shall groan ⸤to one another⸥.\f + \fr 24:23 \ft Literally “a man to his brother” \f*
\v 24 And Ezekiel will be to you as a sign; ⸤everything that he did⸥\f + \fr 24:24 \ft Literally “like all that he did” \f* you shall do; and when it comes you will know that I \add am\add* the Lord Yahweh.
\p
\v 25 “And you, son of man,\f + \fr 24:25 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* \add will it\add* not \add be that\add* on the day ⸤when I take from them⸥\f + \fr 24:25 \ft Literally “on the day of to take me from them” \f* their stronghold, the joy of their glory, the delight of their eyes, and the longing of their inner self,\f + \fr 24:25 \ft Or “soul” \f* their sons and daughters—

\v 27 On that day your mouth shall be opened ⸤at the arrival of the fugitive⸥,\f + \fr 24:27 \ft Literally “with the fugitive”; or “to the one who has escaped” (NRSV; cf. \s1 Judgment upon Various Gentile Nations
\m
\v 1 And the word of Yahweh ⸤came⸥\f + \fr 25:1 \ft Literally “was” \f* to me, ⸤saying⸥,\f + \fr 25:1 \ft Literally “to say” \f*
\v 2 “Son of man,\f + \fr 25:2 \ft Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” \f* set your face toward the ⸤Ammonites⸥\f + \fr 25:2 \ft Literally “sons of Ammon” \f* and prophesy against them,
\v 3 and you must say to the ⸤Ammonites⸥,\f + \fr 25:3 \ft Literally “sons of Ammon” \f* ‘Hear the word of the Lord Yahweh! Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Because of your saying, ‘Ah!’ to my sanctuary when it was profaned, and to the land of Israel when it was\f + \fr 25:3 \ft Or “became” \f* desolate, and to the house of Judah when they went into the exile,
\v 4 therefore look! I \add am\add* giving you to the people\f + \fr 25:4 \ft Or “children” \f* of the East as a possession, and they will set up their encampments in you, and they will make in you their dwelling places; ⸤they themselves⸥\f + \fr 25:4 \ft Literally “they, they” \f* will eat your fruit and ⸤they themselves⸥\f + \fr 25:4 \ft Literally “they, they” \f* will drink your milk.
\v 5 And I will make Rabbah as a pasture of camels and the ⸤Ammonites⸥\f + \fr 25:5 \ft Literally “sons of Ammon” \f* as a haunt of flocks, and they will know that I \add am\add* Yahweh.” ’ ”
\v 6 For thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Because of clapping your hand and stamping with your foot, and \add because\add* you rejoiced in\f + \fr 25:6 \ft Or “to” \f* yourself with all of your malice over the land of Israel,
\v 7 therefore look! \p
\v 8 Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Because of Moab and Seir saying, ‘The house of Judah \add is\add* like all of the nations,’

\v 10 I will give it to the people\f + \fr 25:10 \ft Or “children” \f* of the East in addition to the ⸤Ammonites⸥\f + \fr 25:10 \ft Literally “sons of Ammon” \f* as a possession, so that the ⸤Ammonites⸥\f + \fr 25:10 \ft Literally “sons of Ammon” \f* will not be remembered among the nations.
\v 11 And on Moab I will execute punishments, and they will know that I \add am\add* Yahweh.”
\p
\v 12 Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Because of the doings of Edom in avenging himself \add with\add* vengeance for\f + \fr 25:12 \ft Or “toward” \f* the house of Judah, and \add so\add* they became very guilty and\f + \fr 25:12 \ft Or “since” \f* they avenged themselves on them,”
\v 13 therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: “so\f + \fr 25:13 \ft Literally “and” \f* I will stretch out my hand against Edom and I will cut off from it \add both\add* human and animal, and I will make it a ruin from Teman and Dedan; they will fall by the sword.

\v 15 Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Because of the ⸤acting⸥\f + \fr 25:15 \ft Literally “doing” \f* of \add the\add* Philistines in vengeance, so that they avenged themselves relentlessly with malice in themselves for destruction ⸤with everlasting hostility⸥,\f + \fr 25:15 \ft Literally “\fq with \ft hostility of ongoing ages/eternity” \f*
\v 16 therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: ‘Look! I \add am\add* stretching out my hand against \add the\add* Philistines, and I will cut off the Kerethites, and I will destroy the remainder of ⸤the seacoast⸥.\f + \fr 25:16 \ft Literally “the coast of the sea” \f*

\s1 Ezekiel Prophesies Against Tyre

\v 1 And it was in the ⸤eleventh⸥\f + \fr 26:1 \ft Literally “one ten” \f* year, on the first \add day\add* of the month, the word of Yahweh ⸤came⸥\f + \fr 26:1 \ft Literally “was” \f* to me, ⸤saying⸥,\f + \fr 26:1 \ft Literally “to say” \f*
