ISO 3166-2 Emoji

In a proposed addition to ISO 3166 Part 2, (first-level) subdivisions of Alpha-2 country codes from Part 1 can be coded as a single emoji as defined by Unicode / ISO 10646.

Any Unicode character with Emoji property set to yes can be chosen as a symbol, regardless of the state of its Emoji_Presentation property or the applicability of variation selectors VS-15 and VS-16 (U+FE0E/F).

In a new part of ISO 3166 to be proposed, former geopolitical entities can be encoded as a “subdivision” of its legal successor.
