Instead of one lengthy script can a playlist of shorter scripts be created that automatically load as the end of the current script/bookmark/tag is reached?

Yes, something like that might be doable. Instead of automatically loading at the end of the current script, I would open an entire folder, and you'd sort its contents in any way you like. Then, once you reach the end of a script, you could open the next one or go back to the previous one.
The sidebar that's used for displaying marker/bookmarks would give you the resources to display and to sort the folder's contents. Shortcuts could also be used to navigate scripts.
