This may be a know issue, but I was terrified to see what profiles of inorganic N look like in this single point boreal case.
The behavior isn't surprising, since plants and heterotrophs have first crack at inorganic N (there's very little NO3 produced in surface soils), but below the rooting zone it seems like all the inorganic N is nitrified and sits around. One more reason to tackle the ECA (or similar) approach in our nutrient code...

From @wwieder - we probably won't deal with this until we have more linkages with FATES nutrients, with the ECA (equilibrium chemistry approximation) approach. This probably isn't causing any significant problems right now, but is scientifically unsatisfying.
