Near Infinity (or short: NI) is an open source browser and editor for resources of Infinity Engine games, such as Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale or Planescape Torment. It has been written in Java and can therefore be used on any platform supported by Java, which includes Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The source code is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License.
Near Infinity can be used to browse through all available resource types supported by the Infinity Engine. It also provides editing capabilities for the majority of resource types.
In addition to viewing and editing game resources Near Infinity provides options for converting selected resource types into various target formats, searching for resources in various ways and checking game resources for inconsistencies or errors.

Near Infinity has been written in Java. To run it you have to install a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on your system. Current Near Infinity releases require Java 8 or higher. It is highly recommended to install the 64-bit version of the JRE if you're running a 64-bit operating system as some features of Near Infinity require a lot of system or video memory.
