There was currently a discussion in #1841 about the repo joining a sponsor program, so the community gets the possibility to financially support the project or its developers.

I'll copy the discussion over here.

As a community, I believe we should come together to financially support this project. It plays a crucial role for many organizations and developers, and the dedication of the authors deserves recognition. Setting up channels like GitHub Sponsors or similar platforms could make it easier for us to contribute. Even small amounts can go a long way—at the very least, to show our appreciation and maybe even buy them some well-earned coffee. Their work is invaluable, and our support could help ensure its continued success.

I have been saying this for years. I would be the first to pony up a few hundred $ each year. I have come to realize it is a bit insulting to Laurents et al. As if he is just sitting around goofing off because he is not getting paid. The only way this would work is if he wanted to quit his day job and do this full time instead. Maybe he likes what he does or makes a good salary. What this project needs it more people. Not easy. Steep learning curve. As stated above I will wait patiently and thankfully.

@kampilan I appreciate your perspective, but there might be a misunderstanding about the intention behind my suggestion. The idea isn’t to pressure the authors or imply that they’re not doing enough. Quite the opposite—it’s about expressing gratitude and supporting them in a tangible way for the incredible value they provide to the community.

Of course, it’s entirely their choice how they want to approach funding or whether they even want to consider it. The suggestion is an additional way for us as a community to show our appreciation beyond patiently and thankfully waiting for their work. Their dedication is remarkable, and our small contributions could be a way to acknowledge that—not to replace their passion or day jobs, but to say, “We see and value what you do.”

I probably did not word this as elegantly as I had hoped. I feel just like you do. The people that maintain this project deserve compensation and I am ready to pay. I was simply musing out loud as to why he resists these calls. Maybe he feels there aren't enough "buyers" to support full time work on the project. Maybe he thinks taking money changes the nature of his involvement. Maybe he really doesn't have the time no matter the price. Since I have no one to give my money to, I just wait patiently and thankfully.

Please make it clear in the README how we can financially contribute. My company https://snyder.tech will certainly give a financial contribution. Thank you!

Just a quick reminder to the community—let’s not let the funding initiative conversation fade. Platforms like GitHub Sponsors could allow us to show tangible appreciation for the incredible work done here. Let’s keep the discussion alive and explore how we can support the project!

I will try to find a bit of time over the upcoming holidays, to look into how GitHub Sponsors works and so on.
