The property "variableMeasured" for datasets schema.org allows to add scientific (meta)data to a dataset. Therefore, ro-crates with @type:Dataset can use the property.
@type:File is an alias for media object, which according to schema does not have the variableMeasured property.
I there are many use cases of adding scientific (meta)data to a file:
calibration settings
misc. measurements during/before/after an experiment
Current workaround: create datasets of one file and add the scientific metadata to each dataset. But that defeats the purpose of the word "set" in dataset, in my point of view
