Posting a new nomad

Fielding content

  • Email them the questions
  • Get the response

Adding to Website

  • Create a post by running:

    rake post title="name" site="www.example.com" twitter="name" github="name" instagram="name"

  • Copy text into the post

  • Edit it, add ### headers etc.

  • Edit metadata

  • Add photos

    • For PNG format, go to tiny png and shrink images

    • Place images in src/img/posts/

    • Name them name.jpg and name-alt.jpg (and name-alt2.jpg)

    • Square the name.jpg one using Photoshop. This will be used as the portrait

    • Resize to be modest

    • Run gulp

    • Add image name.jpg to metadata in post

    • Add images to a nice part of the post using the code bellow and replacing (ex: name-alt1.jpg). Alternative text for the image defaults to "inner post". The default value can be overwritten by adding an alt image attribute. (ex: alt="alt image text")

  • Test run locally by running jekyll serve

    • Review and edit
  • Create a branch feat/namePost and push to GitHub

  • Log into netlify and launch deploy preview

    • Final review and edit
  • Create a PR

  • Email the author and tell them it is up

    • Ask them for more refs

Posting online

  • Log into buffer

  • Go to @nomadasfuck Twitter

    • Add a cool image
    • Write something awesome
    • Add a link to the post (shorten with bitly)
    • Add hashtags
    • Set to send Friday @ 3:00pm (EST)
  • Go to nomadasfuck Instagram

    • Add a pic
    • Add a link and tell people to come check it out!
    • Grab a memorable quote and paste it in
    • Add some hashtags
    • Set up the post for 5:00pm (EST)
    • Post and tag the author *(see note bellow)

    *Note: Buffer does not post automatically to Instagram. Rather, buffer will send a prompt at the scheduled time to complete the post.

Note: A Mailchimp campaign is set to check for updates via RSS and automatically send any new posts via email once a week on Tuesday at 10:00am (EST).
