Curtiss Wright C-46 Commando for FlightGear

The Curtiss Wright C-46 Commando is a WWII twin-engine, taildragger and cargo aircraft. It was designed in 1937 as a pressurized passenger airliner. In WWII there were 3,181 build - around half a dozen Commandos are still flying today.

You have to install FlightGear to fly this monster (it has the span of a A320!).

Download

Download this file: Go to https://github.com/SkybikeFG/c46/archive/master.zip. Download the file (Green button on the upper right "clone or download v" > "Download ZIP") and unzip it. Now you have to name the folder "c46-master" as "c46". (without this step it will not work later) Then put the folder to $FGdata/aircraft/.

My C-46 Commando needs the DC6 (Douglas DC6) for its sounds. But this will be changed.

Startup

  1. Start FlightGear with the c46 at an airport.
  2. Switch the magnetos on (3 times } button)
  3. Start the engine starter with s. This takes a few seconds. When you hear the running sound release the s button.

Taxi and Takeoff

  1. Set the flaps to two by pressing 2 times ]
  2. Release parking Brake B
  3. Taxi on the runway. Use your brakes on ,and . (float/point) buttons for steering.
  4. On the runway you can give full power. Now use the rudder instead of brakes.
  5. After takeoff press g
TailWheel Lock will follow as soon as possible.
