Yes, Discord can throttle you, but generally there are other factors that can adversely affect the speed. Some messages can be harder to process than others. For example, messages that contain a lot of mentions or messages with server invites can cause significant slowdowns. |

I downloaded a channel with >140,000 messages, and this took me a couple minutes. Then I tried to download a channel with 4 million messages, without downloading media, but I stopped at 1.4 million messages after ~10 hours, because the download speed got slower and slower. It's been a few hours, and trying to download small parts of the remaining 2.6 millions still yield very slow download speeds (5% of 500,000 messages took me an hour).
Is it because I hit discord rate limits or got throttled? If yes, how much time should I wait before the rates go back to normal?
