Home Page Text #6

The text in that image is also left justified. |
The issue is that you are running at an ultra high resolution. The website currently limits its width so that everything doesn't stretch out to a single line of text for all paragraphs. I can add another rule that specifies an even wider maximum if that seems appropriate? |
Happy to chat about all this but the globe pic on the index page looks great. I think about half the size would be better (see screen shot of my MacBook Air screen, which is a small screen, but its nice to have things fit generally on such as small screen since so many students etc I find are using smaller portable devices. As you can see on my screen the globe gets cut off and doesn’t really need to be that big). 3/4 the size of the globe pic could also work too. Oh and there is a bit too much variety in white space size between sections, such that for example the space between the Getting Started text and the blue and yellow globe pic is a bit too large. On a somewhat related note, it would be good to increase the size of the news box until you get to “more” so that its more flush with the bottom of the globe pic (though I appreciate there isn’t much text in it now which is an issue!). If this is as clear as mud I’m happy to jump on Zoom and clarify visually.
Speaking of the news box, we could add in an “April x” (x equals the date complete) of extra news item once we are in a more stable point, saying that this software is now at beta version 0.9 and how a number of changes were made to improve usability and clarify features (doesn’t need to be detailed at this stage). At least, note something at this point to make it clear its still under active development. Usually for paper submission I submit software at version 0.9 and then go to 1.0 for the initial published version (and then go to 1.1, 1.11, or whatever for minor changes after that). Again, happy to discuss this.
One question: Why is there a link to https://www.amcharts.com/ <https://www.amcharts.com/> under the globe when you are in a globe analysis view? (For example, https://globecorr.ca/globe?view=%2Fsample_small.csv <https://globecorr.ca/globe?view=/sample_small.csv>)
For the text that shows up when you show a globe I suggest changing it from:
To customize the view, use the blue bar to the right of the screen. From here, users can modify the correlation threshold, and colors of correlation ribbons. Please consult our tutorial <https://globecorr.ca/tutorial> and FAQ <https://globecorr.ca/faq> for more information.
To the slightly briefer:
Use the blue bar to the right of the screen to customize the view, including the correlation threshold, and colors of correlation ribbons. Consult the tutorial <https://globecorr.ca/tutorial> and FAQ <https://globecorr.ca/faq> for more information.
Cheers,
Fiona

@esgarlock is that example image just the example data? I need to regenerate it as a SVG.
Amcharts is a commercial product. It is free to use for non-profit so long as we have the logo in the bottom left. |
yeah it's just the example data as a png, also making the text changes now. I have been in a meeting all morning! |
Ok, I shrank the image, replaced it with a SVG so it scales better, and re-positioned it so it doesn't compete with the bottom of the screen on smaller screens. |
Remind me to go over this with you when we chat (hopefully for a bit after the Friday lab meeting). Thank you!
Cheers,
Fiona

Can we get the text at the top of the home page left-justified instead of centered?
