Migration to Manifest V3 #31

Dev UpdateSorry I haven't been able to provide updates these past few months. I've been extremely busy with work and other personal commitments. As I've mentioned last July, both Google and Microsoft are enforcing Manifest V3. Naturally, for me to continue building this extension. I have no other choice but to move forward with the migration. For the most part, the migration went smooth. I was expecting to overhaul the architecture of how the extension functions but it turned out that the background scripts just needed a rework with the new standard. Background scripts are now service workers. Of course, I haven't verified if everything is working. But all I can say is that, it is able to perform the tasks it was designed to do. Next Update Target by Q1 2023 I hate setting deadlines but I am expecting to roll out this update next year. From this point on, no new features will be worked on for the version 3.x.x branch. New features will be under the 4.x.x branch to be in-line with the Manifest V3 migration. However, version 3.x.x will receive bug fixes if needed as well as localization updates. Don't hesitate to file a bug report if you encounter any issues or open a pull request for localization updates. Despite how short lived version 3.x.x is, I feel that this is the most stable build of the extension since it's inception. Remember, this project started as a small personal project of mine after my on the job training in 2019. I didn't know anything about web or JavaScript. You'll be surprised how much has changed since version 1.0 and with each version release, everything that I picked up from my professional career is also reflective of the work i do here. Heck, even the user interface is completely different. It was simple in version 1.0 but version 3.0 brought in a lot of UI/UX changes to make it feel more polished. Once again, thank you to everyone for using AutoRename. If you wish to donate and support this project, click on the Sponsor button. |

Hello!
This is just a quick update. Microsoft has announced that moving forward, only Manifest V3 will be accepted to the Microsoft Edge Add-ons Store for new extensions. Existing Manifest V2 extensions such as AutoRename will still be accepted, however, I have until January 2023 to complete the migration.
UPDATE
Google has also announced their timeline to migrate to Manifest V3
