I am trying to use the mailpit mailcatcher provided by the symfony-docker to test my mails, but i obtain the following error message when sending a test mail:

Connection could not be established with host "127.0.0.1:1025": stream_socket_client(): Unable to connect t o 127.0.0.1:1025 (Connection refused)

I ran this command in the docker container: bin/console mailer:test someone@example.com

You need to change your MAILER_DSN environment variable value from smtp://127.0.0.1:1025 to smtp://mailer:1025.

The IP address 127.0.0.1 of the php container will refer to the php container itself, not to the mailer container (where the expected SMTP server is located).

The best way is to set this value in the compose.override.yaml file, not in the .env file (so that the mailer service is used only during development). It is better to leave neutral data (null://null) in the .env file, or the data of the real SMTP server that will be used on the prod server (given that this data will not contain sensitive information).

In any case, this value can be set in any place convenient for you. The paragraph above only shows the best practice when using this template.
