Steps to reproduce

  1. Where are you starting? What can you see? I am logged into two accounts, each on a different matrix instance,
  2. I send a DM from one account to the other
  3. I join the chat on the receiving account
  4. I can't see the first message that was sent
  5. Happens in both encrypted and unencrypted rooms

Thank you for reporting the issue @THOUSAND-SKY . How did you create a DM without encryption? Are you sure you are using the „DM“ function and not regular rooms? Then this would be explained by the room settings.

For the non-encryption, I believe I ran element on local and tweaked source code to force turn off encryption by flipping shouldForceDisableEncryption to true.

For encrypted chat, it is indeed a DM (shows up on the People list), and was done on app.element.io.

Can you send a screenshot of the room „security an privacy“ settings? Also the room IDs of the room from the rageshake/debug logs would help to find something useful inside.

This is from the encrypted one, tbh I can't exactly remember if I made the debug logs from this one or the unencrypted one, however the unencrypted room I closed already. I can reproduce though, if need be.
