Introduction to the course and the overall goals, syllabus, book, etc.
Meet in GEM 166.
Lab activity: predict DC solution, build + measure to compare
hw01 assigned, due Wed Jan 17
Morning section: Lab 1-A Emitter Follower
Afternoon section: Lab 1-B Current Mirror
Pair up 2-on-2 to give a 20min tutorial about your lab circuit and learn about the other section’s.
hw02 assigned, due Wed Jan 24.
Review of notation for bias and signal quantities.
Derive gain of a CE amplifier from estimates. The limit as RE → 0 is nonsense, so work on a better model. Begin with the transistor equations and approximation of the Ebers-Moll equations in active mode. End with an gateway to the concept of trans conductance.
Make the measurements of [_lab_2], get help, etc.
Taylor series and the small-signal approximation. Transistor transconductance and small-signal parameters. Hybrid-pi model and T model.
No official lab time, Prof. White is at a workshop. Attend if you didn’t come to the Tuesday alternate time.
