I thought it was funny, but a part of me isn't sure if this is a developing project or if you're trying to send the message that Go shouldn't have template projects.

Right now it is kind of a joke... like go generics, I guess :-)

It is tricky to have a template that makes everybody happy though.

It'll be good to have a few open source project references that use the generic project layout repo to use as a foundation for this template.

I was an early Maven user. It's now the standard. Ant was the standard at the time, which was a vote for chaos. It was almost a civil war for those paying attention.

Barbecues are a powerful force against positive change of this sort. You would be surprised what some people will do to avoid spending extra time to learn a new system. Maven was kind of cool because it didn't work very well if people didn't go with the flow. And we were able to move the ecosystem beyond every project being a maze to find the entry points. Go hasn't been so fortunate yet.
