Any recommendations to the platform to run the installation on from a CPU/memory/diskpace/os/software point of view?

In general you should lookup "Siebel System Requirements and Supported Platforms"

@home i use the follwoing:

Virutalboxed CentOS Linux release 7.3
70% of a Dual Core of a Dual Core AMD Turion(tm) II Neo
4 GB Memory
65 GB of downloaded contend
24 GB installed application
No other special requirements

You can demo the installation but there is not much fun using this.
Be prepared: imprep takes over a day on this configuration.
You have to disable some of the compdefs before the start of the siebel server.
Unfortunatly it is started automaticly so expect an OOM situation.
See:

#TODO: Disable unneeded compdefs
#deactivate component definition eChannelCMEObjMgr_enu
#deactivate component definition eCommWirelessObjMgr_enu
#deactivate component definition eCustomerCMEObjMgr_enu
#deactivate component definition eEnergyObjMgr_enu
#deactivate component definition eMediaObjMgr_enu
#deactivate component definition eEnergyOGCObjMgr_enu
#deactivate component definition eSalesCMEObjMgr_enu

As soon as i'm back to work next week i will post some specs for AIX.
But it's around 0.6 EC of a Power7+ CPU ~6 GB Mem.
