Some of the cheaper trekking GPS devices can only output location in decimal degrees of latitude and longitude.
If it was possible to overlay such information on the maps -just like the UTM grid overlay- it would be of great help to make navigation off the grid more accessible for hiking and backpacking. (in situations where smartphones are not a feasible solution or a backup is recommendable)
A flat 0.01 degree grid spacing should be reasonable for 90% of the world according to my calculations.
I think I know enough coding to implement something like this if the team has no bandwidth for this feature. I've looked at the code for the UTC grid feature and seems like most of the moving pieces are already there.
Thanks a lot, and best regards.
