Not urgent, but as food for thought:
Is it possible that the existing token is tied to the main branch only?

Is setting up a token necessary considering this is a public repo?
For public repositories: Codecov uses GitHub/Bitbucket/GitLab API's to authorize users. No setup is necessary.
