Currently https://github.com/insightsengineering/tern.mmrm/blob/main/R/fit_mmrm.R#L37 is not clear about it.
It can easily lead to assertion failure without a clear indication to the user.

To do:

Clarify this in the documentation
Improve error message to hint the user
