opening any app other than alacritty just sticks the application in the corner of the screen

applications other than alacritty dont seem to respond to the compositor at all, ive tried firefox, vivaldi, opera and dolphin so far. i have no idea what could be the problem

That error is rare because I have not noticed it in my configuration.
I use all the applications that you mention and I have no problems, except for the gtk4 applications (and the problem is minimal)

If you open applications with keyboard shortcuts you need to use "&"
