One young man long ago
died. Three days after that
back came. To people that told
place that had gone to and
{Page = 171}
how that had happened. That time
when some one died his-outside-to
songs sing and his body-to also
drum beat they would three days
through. That young man that
told: then when dead,
his body-of inside from he came.
His body-to crying ones among
he walked and their minds-from also
seemingly something cleared. His coffin-of
inside-at his body was laid when,
songs they sang; and that house
side-place door his front-side-from
opened. Out of house outside
had gone when, then road wide one
upon looked. After that then
the road upon he went. Just
place-from that the thing song
one heard that road not
there anything was, but just wherefrom
that quite it ended then therefrom
the road its-end would appear and
thicket inside he would walk. Just
wherefrom that they began to sing
that before him road would appear
and again begin walking would. So
long had walked when, lake
shore-along went. The
across from him people seeing
when, to them waved and canoe also
requested. Just so under him canoe
came and so across ashore
{Page = 172}
was taken. There then
known woman her he saw.
With her that speaking when, thus
to him said: back go yet time
you have while. Here hard-like us
they make work that surely
peopleʼs place-at however even more
than here for them there
they make hard. Then thus to him
that told that aboard ashore
they had taken canoe that lake
bottom-on sunk log really had been.
The womanʼs talk-to listened,
accordingly her-talk-after
his mind changed, and her he asked
how back he would get. To him
that told how that thence
flowing creek it he would find and
how entirely it he might tell
which way it flowed. There then
fully him she informed at what time
not him one would trace. Just so
there from shore him took across:
not them one saw. Thus
walking along when, that water upon
he came. Just as to him
it she had told so that found.
Slowly flowed that creek.
All this time the dead oneʼs
body-to beating time along there
they sang. Just when that sound
end reached then that road end-to
{Page = 173}
he would get and thicket into
would walk. Likewise then about it
would forget whither it flowed that
creek. As him she had informed
exactly as, then water-in
face would put at first thing
of singing. Thereby again
he would know whither it flowed
and whither goal-to its front-to
he should move. Very truly strongly
thus fully that him she had told often:
however this there happens then
don’t hither back you come ever.
Accordingly even though it was hard
not therefore went there. Just
along walking while, child to him
came and just himself-with
it he took. As there they walked
when, their town-to back they
came. House-to he had taken
when, home he went. Home came
when, right there still over him
crying they were and going
his body-to inside he got. Yet
pityful-like wailing there was while,
men-among head raised. Then that
to them it he told where that
he had gone and how that
had happened. Arising-after not
long that there news
one brought: before that day
having died child back had come.
