what I mean by this is: the author of the software supplies a hash stream (freely available or as part of a subscription) that your software can read and then download the hash file for that extension and then use when scanning.
this ensures that the 3rd party addons are hash checked aswell.
maybe a caching mechanisim aswell to prevent the remote servers getting hammered.
p.s. I am working on the server end of this issue. So i will be able to supply streams of hashes for my extensions.
