@stopyoukid and @darthtrevino
It appears that Microsoft will soon be removing support for this visual - it has already been removed from AppSource it seems (the page is now just a 404). Please could you comment/confirm on what is happening for it? Currently customers are being left high-and-dry it seems.

Hey @cbailiss ; these visuals are not actively maintained by our team at this point. If a PowerBI visuals team would like to submit PRs to migrate our API usage or adopt these visuals for better support we'd be happy to facilitate that.

Thank you @darthtrevino for the quick reply, much appreciated, since I was wondering whether I had just missed some migration information somewhere. Unfortunately it seems not - and my original feeling of being left "high-and-dry" remains.

I totally understand; unfortunately maintaining these visuals is fairly intensive and there are several other projects that are higher priority. I'm sorry I can't give you a better answer

Understood, thanks for clarifying where this is at. It's more info than the 404 on AppSource I was getting!

I personally use this filter a fair bit, and I think a lot of my clients find it useful - I expect you have metrics on who uses what visuals, but this one isn't generally popular?

From the above messages, it seems the visual isn't maintained currently. Looks like the Power BI Visuals Team have not formally adopted it, hence it languishing here in github as a custom visual with no updates.
This discussion suggests Microsoft were considering bringing it back:
https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Text-Search-Deprecated-what-is-its-replacement/td-p/2146794
However, the discussion on the above community page took place before the visual was withdrawn from AppSource - so it is not clear what is happening with it.
I've opened a support call with Microsoft to try and get an official answer. The Microsoft support folks have passed the question straight over to the product group. No response from them yet.
Like you @Rekrii I assume they have metrics on visuals usage, so this whole episode has left a sour taste - i.e. suddenly start getting a deprecation message in the Power BI UI, visual disappearing from AppSource with no public announcements, etc. It is not a good experience for customers.

Microsoft Support have confirmed that the visual won't be deprecated (they have reversed their decision) and the filter is now back on AppSource. I hope it is ultimately adopted as a built-in visual and we aren't having the same discussion in another few months...

@cbailiss thanks for raising the support call. It would be amazing if one day soon it is adopted as a built-in visual.
