Trigger the filter dialog with a filter control in the legend, filter controls next to facet labels, segment labels, chronological axis ticks.

Clicking the filter icon in the legend will trigger the filter dialog

Mouseover on a facet title will highlight the title and reveal the filter icon; click reveals the filter dialog.
