User Story

As a worker on the platform
I need/want/expect to be prepared for a UI redesign for the platform
So that we can respond to discovery findings

Value / Purpose

Context:
There are many known weaknesses of the Analytical Platform Control Panel design when comparing against best practices. We can respond to those weaknesses with improvements based on best practices and user research-tested designs from other open source UK Government departments' data platform designs.

Proposal

  • Create wireframes (Figma) - using Gov UK components - for new UI to help guide discussions, architecture proposals, and guide proposals for development work.
  • Create feature lists (Google Docs) for variants or ideas to add to UI (if faster than wireframing and interpretability is not lost)
  • Coordinate with User documentation redesign process to ensure all user tasks are covered in both UI and docs

Additional Information

Government Design Principles - GOV.UK
GOV.UK Design System
Service Standard - Service Manual - GOV.UK

Definition of Done

  • AP UI wireframes drafted
    • Landing page
    • Tools page
    • Data discovery page
    • Data management page
    • Permissions management page
    • Visualise data page
  • Feature list document captures details not in wireframes
  • Integrate User documentation user journeys into designs
