  • The width of the friends list should be adjustable so you can see more of someone's name and status
  • If you hover over a friend you should see his name and status in full in a tooltip-like thing
  • Groupchat peers should have their own list on the right of the chat instead of being a big text at the top
  • A confirmation box should come up before deleting a friend (and before clearing his history?)
  • The friend context menu should include an option for inviting the friend to a group
  • The group context menu should include an option for inviting the friend to a group
  • Textboxes should lose focus when the window is unfocused and gain focus when the window gets focused (if they were focused before).
  • The send button should be added to groupchats
  • The screenshot button should have a clearer icon (photo camera?)
  • The 'remove' option should be the last one in the friend context menu
  • The send button should use a speech bubble instead of a plus
  • The group context menu should include an option to set the group title

Just a large amount of small ideas. Discussion is welcome.

The height of the header above a groupchat should be adjustable, and maybe adjust automatically based on how many people are in the chat(so you can see all names of the chat without making uTox ridiculously wide)

A large amount of names would make the header ridiculously tall. I think having a vertical (toggleable maybe) user list would be better.

Also see #233, #266, #348, #388, #539, #543, #547, #555
Not sure if it's better to close them and put the suggestions there or just leave them as is.

Yeah I think you're right, especially in light of new groupchats which will allow more interaction with peers(seeing their statuses, requesting friendship, sending PMs, etc.) it's best if we have a special list for groupchat peers.

@tsudoko Many good ideas in those threads. I think it's better to keep them their own threads than to put them in the list here though. You made them all easy to find from here thanks to your post anyway. I think we'll go through them slowly and add as we go.

send button should be arrow icon.

I would add that the video display should be somehow integrated into the main UI, with an option to pop it out as its own window. Also, add a fullscreen option for the video (since screensharing 1080p makes it go off the screen if your friend also has a 1080p monitor). Finally, add a lock aspect ratio option to the video window so resizing it doesn't stretch and distort the video.

Should be compatible with #317 if it gets implemented

I would like to see links underlining on hover.

Underlined links are in basically every other chat / web software out there after all.

Underlined links are ugly, haven't seen them in a long time.

Some sort of feedback of the hovering of a link at least, I'd be perfectly fine with something like a slight color change, or anything else. Just some sort of feedback that I'm hovering over an interactive piece of text.
But underlining links on hover has been the standard for a long time now, and you can see them being used everywhere (including here on GitHub).

I think the color change is a good idea. I'm also not opposed to underlining them, but I do think a mild color change would be a nicer UI decision. Maybe make links a little closer to the surrounding text and then pick a bold color on mouseover?

@tsudoko thoughts?

all of these should be moved to the new repo, ideally in separate issues, but one long one with check boxes is okay too @Doom032 @tsudoko
