As much as I appreciate Mint, navigation in Mint could be "better". Let me explain why.
Especially at the beginning, I didn't feel comfortable to browse with Nemo. Meanwhile, I got used to Nemo and browsing works to some extend - here's my suggestion what could be improved.
suggestion
there's a view in Nemo called "compact view", which is very minimalistic, too minimalistic to be useful, in my opinion. Not to be rude, but it feels like some unfinished thing.
Well, this "compact view" could be my favorite file browsing view, if "compact view" would allow me to navigate/explore file hierarchies on the horizontal axis. Please see the attachment at bottom page.
file tree view
The concept is to navigate hierarchies on the horizontal axis.
In my opinion, horizontal browsing was the only "useful" view on Mac and I used that view everyday.
Expanding file trees on the vertical axis in list view is the only possible way to expand file trees.
However, there's much more space for file trees to expand on the horizontal axis, because usually monitors are oriented in landscape mode, not in portrait mode. I myself have a rotatable monitor, however most of the time, I use landscape mode.
Summary
Nemo's "compact view" could be useful and powerful, with the ability to expand file tree on the horizontal axis. Please see attachment.
