Assistance Needed: Generating Chart and Data from Config

Hi Developers,

I’m currently working on a project called Text-to-Chart, which focuses on generating charts from given prompts.

I have a chart configuration that was generated automatically (a chart config may not exist in the database or be logically correct), and I need to:

• Generate the corresponding chart (in PNG or SVG format).
• Retrieve the displayed data (data used in the chart)

I’m unsure how to proceed and would greatly appreciate guidance on the best way to achieve this.

Hello Hy,

We unfortunately don't have third-party use of Grapher as a well-supported use case, so whilst you're welcome to experiment, the team doesn't have the resources to help you out with your exploration.

If you are coding in Python, you may be able to try an old experiment of ours owid-grapher-py. Even that experiment is really designed to get charts displaying it working in Jupyter notebooks rather than rendering them to PNG/SVG, so it could still be a fair bit of work for you.
