author pages not being treated as language neutral

Plone 5.2.7 with PAM 5.6.4
After deploying PAM and starting to add content

Links to an item's owner goes to an author's page relative to the current language (e.g. /en/author) - which fails
The page exists OK at an absolute page /authors

Is there something I should do to avoid these 404s?
