Related Application and/or Package Version (run apt policy $PACKAGE NAME):

  • xpadneo

Issue/Bug Description:
After I installed xpadneo (latest commit), the system just straight up won't boot. It gets to showing Plymouth and then drops me into a BusyBox shell

Steps to reproduce (if you know):

  • Install xpadneo
  • Reboot

Expected behavior:

  • The system should function as normal with xpadneo installed

Other Notes:
Recordings of dmesg in BusyBox and lsinitramfs from a live environment (ran on the latest installed kernel's initramfs image): https://imgur.com/a/wNAv6dP

Sounds like something broke your bootloader. This might help: https://support.system76.com/articles/bootloader

But yeah, that xpad-neo README does mention DKMS modules, which may have some compatibility issues with the Pop kernel. This should probably be reported on their repo, rather than here. Whether or not they consider Pop!_OS a supported platform is a question only they can answer.

It's actually already been reported twice on xpadneo's issue tracker, by me and another lad

Anyway, I'm gonna try what you said, I don't have too high hopes though, as booting into an older kernel worked fine for me. Still gonna try it though!

@leviport As I thought, no dice. Tried repairing the bootloader according to the guide and it still drops into the BusyBox shell.

It could be because (for some reason), update-initramfs couldn't get EFI vars
