How to make sure it is running through a vpn.

I use Ultra VPN before using any bittorrent. I have been using Utorrent Pro for years and I have never had this problem. I installed QBittorrent and started using it. I always open Ultra VPN first then open QBittorrent. I have been getting letters from my internet provider on what I have downloaded since using QBittorrent. How do I make sure it is going through my VPN program

First of all to keep the laywers off me: I do not support pirating stuff. Now that i got the lawyers out of the way, if you are useing NetworkManager you can use the bind option to bind it to the vpn.
Example for surfshark

In gnome when the vpn is on it should show the interface being used like
sometimes.
