Could not write to file data\lang-en\menu battle field

After finishing the settings and the config, when I click on go, I have an error message :

The game works perfectly fine when I launch it through the exe or steam

This means the program doesn't have permission to edit the game files - there are lots of possible reasons for this depending on your PC setup, so I'm afraid my advice will be a bit vague.

First try restarting windows to make sure there isn't some old background thing holding onto it.

Running as administrator may work but it shouldn't be required.

Have a look around the file properties & antivirus settings for some option to unblock either maelstrom.exe or the ff8 install folder (or if someone else has set up your PC, ask them to have a look for you).
