Bitbake >= 1.52 changed syntax of overrides (dunfell not affected)

The syntax of overrides has changed with bitbake version >= 1.52. So, the recipies can not be parsed with newer Yocto versions.
The change was committed in August 2nd 2021 and first emerged in Yocto release Honister, which is EOL already.

However, I would contribute a change to the new syntax in a new branch for release "kirkstone", if you create one.
