Layer Tree Scale Dependent Rendering.

There are many layers in the map which have scale dependent rendering applied to them. It would be very useful to "tell" the user when a layer is NOT showing because they just need to zoom in. Wondering if there is a way to detect the zoom scale from the WMS request and then to do something like bray the layer out in the layer tree when it is not available due to scale.

where is this scale dependent rendering set is it set in the layer style or in geoserver when looking into geoserver wms capibilitys returns this but only if the rendering is actualy scale dependent for the whole layer.
