Hi.
I can't load any session

This is the error I get

This is the code I try to use:

import fastf1 as ff1

ff1.Cache.enable_cache('data/')

session = ff1.get_session(2023, 'Melbourne', 'Q')
session.load()

Interestingly using ff1.get_event_schedule(2023).head() works perfectly. I thought it could have been python 3.11 issue.

• macOS Ventura 13.4.1
• vscode
• jupyter notebook 6.5.4
• cache folder is found and subfolders for race weekends are created correctly

This looks like a server issue with the F1 livetiming API or the connection is getting blocked by something.
It currently works for me. Maybe they fixed the issue. Is this still a problem for you?

ff1.get_event_schedule(2023).head() works because the event schedule is requested from a different API (my own backend). So that's a different server.

Oh. it was the VPN.... thanks!

To anyone facing similar issues in the future -> turn off any type of VPN or anything working on your connection.

EDIT: I have NordVPN.

Interesting, this is the first time this has been reported. So far, there've never been issues when using a VPN.

Is there any way I can check whether or not the session.load() returns data? (i.e. if it can't load the data, pass)

Not really, mostly because data loading can fail partially, e. g. you may get lap data but no results or something like that. You need to specifically check if the data that you need exists.
