Describe the bug
I attached logs of plasmashell and
just device-info
On my relatives PC something related to QT seems to be broken which causes SDDM/plasmashell all system QT apps (except konsole for some reason) like dolphin/systemsettings to crash.
Flatpak QT stuff/GTK/Firefox still works. I can still open windows with shortcuts as
kwin_wayland
process is running.SDDM does not start and only shows a blinking cursor in the the top left corner on a black screen
Starting plasma without a display manager with
startplasma-wayland
in another tty initially works butplasmashell
still crashesI made a new user and additionally moved
~/.config/
and~/.local
somewhere else to outline user config error as the cause. startplasma-wayland has the same behavior as before. So this should be an image issue, right?Purging the user generated sddm config in
/etc/sddm.conf.d/kde_settings.conf
didn't work.It was initially on a
kinoite-main:latest
image so F41The update from 2024-11-13 to 2024-11-20 seemed to break something. Although when I rolled back to 2024-11-13 it had the same issues.
But this should not be possible as this issue did not occur before on the 2024-11-13 image.
I also tested the normal Fedora KDE Live ISO which worked fine (from October 29, 2024, I would guess)
Maybe that date could be used to narrow down the issue.
I still had an ISO of
aurora:40
from august laying around and used this to replace kinoite-main with auroraThe newest image of
:40
works but not:41
, but this time the rollback actually saved my ass.It would be really awesome If someone could install Aurora:41 on their old Intel 4th Gen PC and try to reproduce this.
What did you expect to happen?
SDDM works, plasmashell works on F41

rpm -qa
from F41 and F40There seems to be a memory leak involved somewhere as the memory and swap were pretty much always fully utilized and also caused it to freeze entirely.
This did not occur when I did startplasma-wayland on the tty. So without systemd trying to restart
plasma-plasmashell.service
3x times(?) 3x Dr. Konqi plasmashell startup failure windows.output of
