The genus and species data entry boxes should be replaced with a single dropdown menu for user species selection. This dropdown menu should be called " Observed Species". The user should be able to select from the following species:
Boxelder (Acer negundo)
Striped Maple (Acer pensylvanicum)
Red maple (Acer rubrum)
Silver maple (Acer saccharinum)
Sugar maple (Acer saccharum)
Yellow birch (Betula alleghaniensis)
River birch (Betula nigra)
Paper birch (Betula papyrifera)
Balsam poplar (Populus balsamifera)
Eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoides)
Large-toothed aspen (Populus grandidentata)
Trembling aspen (Populus tremuloides)
White oak (Quercus alba)
Swamp white oak (Quercus bicolor)
Northern pin oak (Quercus ellipsoidalis)
Bur oak (Quercus macrocarpa)
Northern red oak (Quercus rubra)
Black oak (Quercus velutina)

The code can still just sort by genus, but it will ensure students collect data and that the data will be more useful later on.
