Below are some guidelines for writing scripts for NPSP How-To Videos. You can also check out this Sample Script for an idea of the style.
- Intro - Start each script with something similar to - “Let’s take a look at how to… create a Contact ... in the Nonprofit Starter Pack.”
- First Person Plural (We) - We want the viewer to feel part of the team so we always write our scripts in first person plural (we).
- Informal Style - Use colloquial and personable language. For example, say “we’re” rather than the more formal form “we are.” Add some personality and fun to the topic when possible without getting off track.
- Content - The content should follow the existing NPSP documentation as a guide since it has already been curated by Salesforce.org.
- Flow- There should be a logical and simple flow from one step to the next.
- Length - You should be able to comfortably read the script in two minutes or less.
- Give Space- Try clicking around on the screen as you read your script to make sure you’ve left room for the actual configuration steps in the screen recording.
- Lightning - Use the Lightning UI only.
- Outro - End each script with something similar to - “For more information about setup and best practices, check out the NPSP documentation. Thanks for watching.”
When you’re done, make sure to ask at least one other community member to proofread the script and confirm that it follows the guidelines above.
