If the goal of the package is to only provide additional functionality to existing OpenM++ users, then this should be specified clearly at the top of the package description and made clear in the JOSS paper text. If intended audience also includes people who wish to learn how to use OpenM++ but starting from within R (e.g. openmpp as a gateway to using the OpenM++ platform), then more OpenM++ explanation and guidance should be provided.

Thank you for the comment, we agree that this clarification is important. We have added the following sentence to the DESCRIPTION file for the R package and to the JOSS manuscript.

The primary goal of this package is to wrap the OpenM++ Web Service (OMS) to
provide existing OpenM++ users a programmatic interface for the R language.

For example:

openmpp/DESCRIPTION

Lines 7 to 9 in abc7a0f

Description: A programmatic interface to the OpenM++ microsimulation platform.
