Orthanc Milestones

Orthanc was designed and created by Sébastien Jodogne, a belgian computer scientist, who holds a a degree in computer science (2001) and a doctorate in science (2006) at the University of Liège, always with highest honors.

He worked first as a software engineer for several companies and co-founded Jomago in 2010, before joining end 2011 the CHU Liège as medical imaging engineer.

Sébastien Jodogne works currently as a software consulting in his own company Orthanc Labs. He is also the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of Osimis, a spin-off company of the CHU Liège, which was created in 2015, alongside the Orthanc project, to help it reach a wider market.

He continues to work as teacher and scientific collaborator within the university of Liège. Sébastien Jodogne is an Officer of Walloon Merit and was rewarded several prices.

The milestones ot the Orthanc project are listed hereafter:

  • 2011 : inception -> academic project
  • July 2012 : first release (0.1.0) as Palantir
  • September 2012 : renaming to Orthanc (0.2.0) and logo contest
  • October 2012 : default HTTP port 8042 (0.2.3)
  • January 2013 : anonymization, ZIP and support of private tags (0.5.0)
  • April 2013 : launch of the Google groups Orthanc forum
  • June 2013 : Orthanc peers
  • July 2013 : access to metadata (0.6.0)
  • October 2013 : Orthanc becomes a vendor neutral archive (VNA)
  • October 2013 : keep PatientID during anonymization (0.7.0)
  • July 2014 : introduction of LUA scripts and the Orthanc Plugin SDK (0.8.0)
  • July 16, 2014 : CodeProject : Implementing a WADO Server using Orthanc
  • August 2014 : enhancement of LUA scripts (0.8.2)
  • September 2014 : support of DICOMDIR (0.8.3)
  • November 2014 : new database schema (0.8.5)
  • December 2014 : interfacing with ImageJ
  • February 2015 : access Orthanc peers (0.8.6)
  • February 2015 : WebViewer and PostgresSQL plugins
  • March 21, 2015 : FSF award for the Advancement of Free Software to Sébastien Jodogne
  • April 2015 : first Orthanc image on DockerHub
