How it Works

The Freexchange App works by having you create a user profile with the system which keeps track of essential contact and community information, and then, the system will act as an agent for you - performing a search once an hour for whatever searches you specify. If it finds an item you're looking for, you will get an SMS message immediately telling you about the item, and asking if you would like to reply to the offer. The system will reply to the offer on your behalf, but after that, you're on your own to arrange a meetup/pickup time with the Offeror.

Also, the system does not work with email. Instead, the Offeror will recieve a one time system generated email telling him or her that you are interested in their offer, and if they would please contact you via phone or text at your registered phone number. In this way, you do not need email at all to interface with Freecycle. All you need is a plain feature phone - you don't need a smartphone, and you don't need a data plan.
