With version 3.0.0 Similar offers a new type of gates whose behaviour may be described using an HDL: Similar-HDL is a very small subset of VHDL and provides predefined types (integer, integer_vector, bit, bit_vector, std_ulogic, std_ulogic_vector), variables, signals, sequential statements and functions. Similar allows to define entities and multiple architectures for each entity. HDL gates are fully integrated into Similar's circuit editor and simulator. Moreover, a single step simulation of HDL gates is available.

Similar is available for Windows 10 and Windows 11 and Ubuntu and dynamically links to the unmodified Qt libraries in the pre-compiled format provided by the Qt company. A 32-Bit version (using Qt 5.15.2) and a 64-Bit version (Qt 6 and Qt 5.15.2) are available as NSIS installers and ZIP archives for Windows 10/11. For Ubuntu 20.04.1 a tarball is ready for download.
