Project Abstract

Signet is blockchain-native financial workflow management software for enterprises. The goal of Signet is to enable enterprises or institutional users to perform blockchain operations such as treasury management, payments, staking and governance in a way that is friendly to non-technical users. The software is built natively on top of Substrate, including the multisig, proxy, governance and staking pallets, but adds an open-source self-hostable software layer on top that enables configurable workflows for the purpose of internal risk mitigation.

This grant proposes two milestones:

  1. Take the "Sign in with Substrate" functionality that has been developed in Signet and package it as a documented, reusable component focused on developer experience similar to the "Sign in with Ethereum" standard. We believe this should be a common good and will have a halo effect on Substrate adoption by providing a new avenue for both existing web2 and current web3 developers to build for the ecosystem. After the grant, we will solicit interest for moving forward with a standard.
  2. Build staking-related modules into the Signet multisig dashboard, including selection/rotation of validators for a nomination pool or staking position, including the advanced use case of doing so when the staking proxy is a pure proxy controlled by a multisig. This is a challenging and potentially error-prone process for users who need to perform the action using Polkadot.js.

This application is not a follow-up to a previous grant.

Congratulations and welcome to the Web3 Foundation Grants Program! Please refer to our Milestone Delivery repository for instructions on how to submit milestones and invoices, our FAQ for frequently asked questions and the support section of our README for more ways to find answers to your questions.

Before you start, take a moment to read through our announcement guidelines for all communications related to the grant or make them known to the right person in your organisation. In particular, please don't announce the grant publicly before at least the first milestone of your project has been approved. At that point or shortly before, you can get in touch with us at grantsPR@web3.foundation and we'll be happy to collaborate on an announcement about the work you’re doing.

Lastly, please remember to let us know in case you run into any delays or deviate from the deliverables in your application. You can either leave a comment here or directly request to amend your application via PR. We wish you luck with your project! 🚀
