We are interested in seeing the opportunity for people to get answers to financial questions and to provide just-in-time financial education to better help them navigate their financial choices and shop for or choose the solutions that works best for them.

Ask CFPB

We currently provide services for people to search for answers to financial questions in “Ask CFPB” which also has very similar content adjusted in a knowledge management system for person-to-person interaction with our call center within Consumer Response.

Examples of questions:

Q: “Ask CFPB if I should respond to a debt collector”

Q: “Ask CFPB what a Perkins Loan is”

Q: “Ask CFPB if I should chose a federal or private student loan”

Q: “Ask CFPB what a balloon loan is”

Q: “Ask CFPB what costs will I have to pay as part of taking out a mortgage loan”

Q: “Ask CFPB what my 6 and 8 year old children should know about money at that age, and what I can I do to help”

The Ask CFPB API can be accessed at:

https://www.consumerfinance.gov/askcfpb/api/search

Consumer Complaints

We also have a database of consumer complaints: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/data-research/consumer-complaints/#download-the-data API: https://cfpb.github.io/api/ccdb/

Q: "Ask CFPB how many people have had an issue with ______ company"

Q: "Ask CFPB how many types of _____ complaints they received this year" Q: "How many of those complaints were resolved?"

Also, there may be use cases for the complaints process:

Q: "Ask CFPB the status of my complaint"

Q: "Ask CFPB to read my company response to my complaint"

Q: "Ask CFPB how I submit a complaint"

Q: "I'd like to submit a compliant to CFPB"

Home Mortgage Disclosure Act: HMDA requires many financial institutions to maintain, report, and publicly disclose information about mortgages. HMDA is important because it helps show whether lenders are serving the housing needs of their communities and sheds light on lending patterns that could be discriminatory.
